The 7 Biggest Spring 2024 Trends From the Men's Fashion Week Runways

Historically, the excitement of fashion week has been contained to the four "main" womenswear lineups in New York, London, Milan and Paris. But there's been a shift in recent years, as designers have worked to think beyond any preconceptions about menswear and open up their imagination to allow for innovation — and fashion worth writing home about.

Menswear itself has evolved, less tethered to traditional gendered ideas of dress and more welcoming of innovation, in terms of silhouettes, materials and trends. Creatives deemed "up-and-comers" have risen up and proven their staying power, becoming the new establishment. And the men's fashion weeks in London, Milan and Paris have become headline-makers, garnering the same fanfare as their womenswear counterparts.

The Spring 2024 shows — which just wrapped in Paris — had their fair share of buzzy moments, from Pharrell Williams' debut at Louis Vuitton to Rhuigi Villaseñor's first Rhude collection since leaving Bally (and since being sued by a business partner). On the runway, some of the key trends for the season mirror what we've seen on the womenswear side (an affinity for spacious pockets, a love of Kelly green), while others offer an exciting preview for how we'll be dressing next year. Overall, designers invite us to loosen up a bit (lose the collar, throw on a going-out top!) and remind us that clothes are meant to be worn.

Goodbye, Collars

Across the Spring 2024 runways, brands agreed that it’s time to ditch collars on outerwear — if only for one season. From Williams' Louis Vuitton to Zegna, collarless jackets reign in menswear.

Going-Out Tops for All

A staple in every woman's closet from the early 2000s through circa 2013, the going-out top is a very specific garment: It's easy and versatile enough that it can be reworn time and time again, but it also feels more special than the run-of-the-mill tank top or cami, so that it immediately dresses up a pair of jeans or black trousers for a night out. The going-out top is universal — and it has no gender, as the Spring 2024 menswear runways (from Saint Laurent to Egonlab to Dsquared2) propose their own versions of the piece.

Carry-All Cargo Pockets

Cargo pockets are a recurring trend across both womenswear and menswear, and the Spring 2024 collections confirm that's not changing anytime soon. We see the spacious pockets across baggy pants, jackets, shirts and even vests, courtesy of Prada, Hed Mayner, 1017 Alyx 9SM and many more.

Soft Pants

Call it the lasting effects of quarantine dressing, but soft pants — most often featuring stretchy waistbands and made with plush fabrics — are just as prevalent on the Spring 2024 runways as the expected tailored trousers. They're paired with polished jackets (Kiton, MSGM, Brunello Cucinelli) and equally cozy tops (JW Anderson, Fendi, Marcelo Burlon) alike, to be comfy at any and all occasions.

Kermit Green

There are a handful of public figures that are perennial fashion icons: Princess Diana, Rihanna... Kermit the Frog. Okay, maybe that last one isn't always top of mind, but his specific flavor of green seems to be resonating in the menswear space. Kermit/Kelly Green might be a big theme in your Spring 2024 wardrobe, if Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Walter Van Beirendonck and more have any say.

Varsity Athletics, Revisited

When we talk about nostalgia-infused trends, we usually pull from a moment in pop culture or, occasionally, runway history. Every so often, though, brands will pull from specific chapters of people's lives — in the case of Spring 2024 menswear, designers seem to be reminiscing about a time when they participated in team sports, showing a range of varsity jackets, sports-inspired jerseys and other silhouettes that borrow from athletic uniforms, from swimming to track to football. Go sports!

Nice Shred

That undone look is reimagined — well, more accurately, sent through a shredder — for Spring 2024 in menswear. Dsquared2, Rains, Andersson Bell and others endorse a little bit of (measured) destruction in our wardrobes.
