7 Beauty Moments From HyunA's "I'm Not Cool" Music Video That Are Actually Incredibly Cool

After taking time to focus on her health, new music from HyunA is finally here. The K-pop star just dropped a vibrant music video for her new single, "I'm Not Cool," and as many fans are saying in the comments, only someone who is, in fact, cool can declare they aren't. We can't help but agree with that sentiment. Every hair and makeup look the adventurous performer revealed in each scene was more experimental and delightfully fun than the next.

In true HyunA fashion, she didn't shy away from the glitz, the glam, and the unexpected. (Just wait until you see one of the extravagant headpiece HyunA topped a mile-long braid with.) Picking our favorite hair and makeup moments from "I'm Not Cool" was a difficult task, but the following are the ones absolutely inspiring us to play with beauty in more flashy ways while being cooped up inside and staying safe. Several of these eye makeup moments could even be taken on a test drive when running errands (with a mask on, of course).

1. Bejeweled Beauty

By incorporating rhinestones and overlined bold fuchsia lips into the central beauty look of the music video, HyunA created a natural segway from her "Flower Shower" era to "I'm Not Cool." (We recommend the Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Lipstick in Fierce Flamingo if you're interested in trying out a similar lip color.) Plus, she tried out the Area crystal headpiece trend, which has also been seen on Somi and Blackpink.

2. Pretty in Punk

HyunA is no stranger to pink eye shadow with winged liner. She's dabbled in the duo throughout her K-pop career. However, this time, she layered on stunning punk-inspired elements. Down the center of her right eye, she has a lavender line of glitter reminiscent of the Pat McGrath look from Anna Sui's spring/summer 2018 show. (HyunA also adorned both eyes in a similar style — just in pink — in another scene.) The Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Studio will help you recreate the shimmering stripe with one stroke, by the way.

But that's not all. Underneath her eyes, HyunA's makeup artist drew on stokes of black eye pencil acting as graphic lower lashes. (They are also a part of another scene's look.) Gems were also adhered on either side of the bridge of the singer's nose like a dainty-yet-daring piercing. And to finish it all off, watermelon-pink lipstick was swiped on. The whole intricately detailed look is so engaging, you hardly notice the shirtless men dancing behind HyunA.

3. Baby Spice Pigtails

With her sassy high pigtails and colorful pastel barrettes, HyunA is giving us major Baby Spice vibes in this scene. The tendrils and blunt bangs just add to the amazing '90s girl group aesthetic.

4. Snakes and Sparkles

Once again, HyunA gave us a lot to digest with this look. The lifelike, wired-mesh snake headpiece that coiled down the side of her face, underneath her chin, and onto her shoulder would have been enough with a minimalist makeup look and simple updo. More is more in HyunA's world, though, and we can't help but admire her for that. The critter framed rectangular, lash-like crystals along her undereyes, all the while topping a braid that ran past her waist.

5. '90s Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette declared, "Let them eat cake," with voluminous updos embellished with feathers, jewels, and floral brooches. HyunA sang, "I'm not cool," with a butterfly clip-secured twisted updo. Queens will be queens.

6. Yellow Stones

Zoom in to HyunA's '90s Marie Antoinette look, and you'll notice a contrasting eye makeup combination only HyunA and her makeup team could master. They paired magenta eye shadow with flicks, lilac glitter, and lemon-yellow rhinestones. The bright specks remind us of the pollen of a flower. Not enough people experiment with yellow gems, but we have a feeling we're about to see lots of looks featuring them grace our Instagram feeds very soon.

7. Bob Layers

Another trend HyunA put her stamp of approval on: bob layers. We've noticed sleek, blunt, bob-length layers framing models' faces at Prada's spring 2021 show, courtesy of hairstylist Guido Palau, as well as several other K-pop stars. The daring haircut is sure making us want to break out the scissors.

"There's so much going wrong in the world. The pressure of conforming is gone. We're so bombarded to do quite extreme things now that it all pushes the narrative of beauty further," Palau told Allure last year, and we're pretty sure HyunA would agree.
