Iman shared that she uses a natural pain-relieving cream (similar to this one) to soothe her wrist injury.
The model broke her wrist last year and had surgery.
She says she “can’t go anywhere,” without it.
In her roomy Fendi handbag, supermodel Iman carries all the essentials: lip balm, AirPods, a Louis Vuitton planner, and arnica pain-relieving cream. If you’re not familiar with the latter, it’s a topical homeopathic pain remedy, and the 68-year-old told British Vogue that she “can’t go anywhere” without it.
“I have injured my wrist and I had surgery,” she explained. “It’s actually for healing, for bruising.”
Research seems to corroborate her claim. A 2021 study published in Medicines found arnica, a flowering plant long used to soothe muscle pain, inflammation, arthritis, and even bee stings, to be an effective pain reliever and comparable to anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen. Another study found it to be particularly effective in treating post-operative pain. Best of all, arnica products—gels, capsules, and creams—may come with fewer adverse side effects and at a cheaper cost than over-the-counter pain relievers.
Iman didn’t share the exact brand of cream she uses, but it appears similar to this $7 pick from Amazon. It’s a non-greasy, water-based formula that temporarily relieves pain and stiffness. It absorbs quickly into the skin and is fragrance-free, and reviewers are just as dedicated to the salve as Iman is.
“This stuff really works. Getting older, I bruise easy. This cream helps the bruising disappear faster,” one reviewer raved. Another noted that it “helped reduce the swelling and bruising quickly.”
Someone else wrote: “This product not only helps heal the bruises I get from the slightest bump, but it also helps with any swelling and stiffness that I get with muscle pain.”
In addition to arnica, Iman also carries with her a wrist brace, which she joked “looks so S&M.” Last year, she was fresh off of the injury while speaking with Glamour and explained that she broke her wrist during a hiking accident.
“I fell off my flats—I wasn’t even wearing heels!” she said.
At least she’s now on the mend and back to doing what she loves. She’s currently promoting a fashion collection with Home Shopping Network and shows no signs of slowing down—wrist injury or not.
