At 66, Denise Austin Demonstrates ‘Quick,’ ‘Effective’ Full-Body ‘Toning’ Workout

Fitness pro Denise Austin shares targeted workout videos on Instagram (check out her one on hot arms, a lifted booty, and toned abs) so often, it’s hard to keep up—and we want to, because each is that good. Now, Austin is back with another upbeat demonstration of head-to-toe (note: full-body) toning exercises—no equipment needed.

The 66-year-old recently posted a clip to Instagram that reveals a snippet of “a quick eight-minute routine” full of well-rounded exercises. “This workout includes a little cardio and then some head-to-toe toning…which is the perfect combination to blast fat!” Austin explained in the caption of the video. “You can do this routine anywhere because there is no equipment involved.”

“Hi everybody! Welcome to your eight-minute fat blast—we’re going to do some cardio and body toning without weights,” Austin says in the opening of her video. “So let’s get started!”

While standing on her yoga mat, Austin explains that the first move is to “get the body going” and warm up the muscles. She begins with her legs spread far apart, bouncing from side to side, pivoting on her toes of one foot, while punching her arms toward the side of the room she is facing. “Use your legs, use your arms. All the major muscle groups. Let’s go!” Austin instructs. “You gotta do the best you can. That’s it, give it 110%!”

The next move looks similar to the warm-up, but with a bit more energy. Austin continues the side-to-side movement, incorporating “a little bit of bicep curls with a heel raise,” she says. “Working the legs and arms are the same time.” With each step to the side, she curls both arms and lifts one leg, reaching her heels toward her glutes, alternating with each step. “It really helps to burn calories [and] firm up muscle,” Austin explains. “We’re gonna gonna sculpt, tone, and burn some calories.”

Austin calls the third move a “tap-behind” and explains that it works the triceps. To perform the move, she begins by facing forward and then slightly shifts her upper body toward one side while extending her back leg behind her and reaching both arms to the back as well. She continues the movement by quickly returning to the center and alternating sides. “Make sure the elbows stay up high. You’re working the back of your legs and the back of your arms,” Austin says. “You got this! Firm and tone and tighten!”

As usual, fans were motivated by her informative video.“Wow you look absolutely stunning...keep up the great workouts, you are absolutely smashing it,” one fan wrote. “My mom isn’t big on Instagram but she says that it’s an honor to see that you’re still doing great and she’s a big fan!! 🙌 ” another added.
