The 65th Evening Standard Theatre Awards Hosts Have Been Announced

One of the most important nights in English theatre is on the horizon once again, with the Evening Standard announcing on Monday that its 65th annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards will take place on Sunday, November 24 at the West End’s London Coliseum.

The event is cohosted annually by Anna Wintour and Evening Standard owner Evgeny Lebedev, and this year, they’ll be joined by the all-star team of Cush Jumbo, Damian Lewis, and Helen McCrory.

Jumbo, a former ESTA winner who stars as Lucca Quinn on cult-favorite TV show The Good Fight, will present the awards’ opening ceremony; the husband-and-wife team of Lewis and McCrory, who are known for their roles on Billions and Peaky Blinders, respectively, will join her in recognizing some of the most exciting talents currently working in theatre.

Last year’s awards were presented by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, this year’s Emmys darling, and winners included Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo for their roles as star-crossed lovers in Antony and Cleopatra, as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton and playwright Natasha Gordon.

This year’s ceremony—which is sponsored by Michael Kors—will crown new winners in categories such as Best Play, Best Actor, Best Musical, and the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress, in memory of the English actress, who passed away in 2009. The awards short list will be released in early November.

Said Wintour of the event: “London’s theatre scene continues to thrive, and I am so thrilled to be cohosting the Theatre Awards again with Evgeny, Cush, Damian, and Helen, celebrating the talent for their outstanding achievements in London theatre.”
