At 63, Valerie Bertinelli Gets Candid About ‘Filters and Gray Roots’ in Raw Video

Recently, The Food Network star posted a video to Instagram opening up about gray hair and taking the opportunity to address fan comments on her use of filters in videos—and wigs.

The 63-year-old posted a candid, makeup-free, filter-free video to address fans’ concerns. “PSA about filters and gray roots 😂,” Bertinelli captioned the video.

“I am filming with no filter today because some of y’all get really bent out of shape when I choose to use a filter, which I’ve told you about—sometimes I use a filter and sometimes I don’t,” Bertinelli explained in the video. “Most of the time I do use filter, because this is me with no makeup and this is no filter, okay.”

After clearing up confusion about the visuals of her videos, Bertinelli addressed one fan’s accusation about her hair.

“Oh, and another person commented that I’m wearing a wig. Can you get me a wig without flipping gray roots then please?” Bertinelli added, showing fans her graying hair. “Because I’m tired of getting my roots done every two weeks. I thank goodness 99.9% of you are like really kind, sweet people and don’t give a flying flip whether I have roots or I put a filter on. But some of y’all need to chill out, okay? I mean seriously.”

Fans rushed to the comments to offer their support. “Valerie—I can’t believe the c*** people say to you! The heck with all of them. I love your honesty and truthfulness! Just keep being you,” one fan commented. “Hey gorgeous, you’re beautiful and it's coming from inside!!! Use a filter if you want, we love you no matter what! This isn’t the first time that Bertinelli has been honest with her fans about insecurity and self-acceptance. In fact, the star recently posted a “vulnerable” video about body image. “It’s nice to see how far I’ve come emotionally. I continue to work on not suppressing or numbing my feelings with food or alcohol and here I am,” the star explained. “I am enough. Our bodies do not define who we are as human beings. A number on the scale does not define how much love your heart can hold. Please love yourself, every single part of you. YOU ARE ENOUGH 🤍✌🏻”
