6 Things You Missed From "Roseanne" Last Night

From Good Housekeeping

After 20 years, the Roseanne reboot finally premiered tonight, and unlike other classic sitcom returns, this one (not surprisingly) pushed a lot of boundaries. Politics was definitely a huge part of the first episode, with the focus of Roseanne and her sister Jackie's strained relationship after Roseanne votes for Donald Trump. But the show proved very quickly it's staying true to its core of valuing family, even when everyone can't stand each other.

So far, the reviews about the pilot are mixed, but there were definitely a few moments moments that stood out to us that you may have missed.

The house looks the same, but it's way different.

When you look quickly, you'll think you're looking at the exact same house, but upon further inspection, you'll see some iconic pieces are actually completely different. The stripes on the couch are bigger, as is the pattern in the iconic quilted throw. The photo that hangs in the background is also different (although, again, it looks incredibly similar).

We finally figure out what happened to Dan.

So we all know that Dan supposedly died in the last episode of the original series. Since hearing about the reboot, we couldn't help but wonder how the show was going to bring him back to life. Well, the first scene opens with Roseanne trying to wake Dan up from sleeping. She screams his name, and when he finally gets up she says: "Dan, I thought you were dead!" SO CLEVER.

But it's not until a few scenes later that we see Dan hold up a manuscript that Roseanne wrote, and tells her the story would have been so much better had she not killed him off. So, there you have it - it wasn't a dream, but rather a story.

There's a "Don't fence me in" sign in the kitchen.

This stitchwork sign (that we hadn't noticed in the original show?) likely references the famous 1934 Western song with that title. Haven't heard the song before? It's basically about freedom and letting the cowboy be who he wants to be and go where he wants to go - very Roseanne, no?

Roseanne isn't the only one who laughs this time around.

If you listen VERY closely at the end of the opening credits, you will hear John Goodman a.k.a. Dan laughing along with Roseanne. It's a bold move since Rosie's laugh pretty much became another character in the original show.

If Darlene's kid's name sounds familiar, it's because it is.

Mark, Darlene and David's gender non-conforming child, is named after uncle Mark, who in the original series was David's brother and Becky's husband. Glenn Quinn, who played Mark, died in real life in 2002, and Jackie mentions that his character is also dead in this series.

Jerry ... remember Jerry?!

Yes, Roseanne and Dan had four kids, not three! Little Jerry Garcia Conner was born in 1995, two years before the show ended. There really hasn't been any mention of him appearing in the reboot, and he isn't in the first episode, but Roseanne does say that Jerry is on a fishing boat ... somewhere. No word on Andy, Jackie's son.
