During her relatively short time as a member of the royal family, Meghan Markle has staked her claim on a few causes close to her heart. Environmentalism is certainly among them-and it's highly likely that her eco-friendly ethos will inform her parenting style. Here, exactly why Meghan is shaping up to be a green-minded mother.

She's been into sustainability long before she was a Duchess.

On her now-defunct lifestyle blog the Tig, Meghan often wove her love of the outdoors and passion for eco-friendly practices into her posts. In December of 2016, she posted a guide to celebrating the holidays sustainably. "It’s important that we never forget the wellbeing of our good ol’ Mama Earth," she wrote. Meghan and Prince Harry's home renovations took the environment into account.

When drawing up the plans for their newly renovated home in Windsor, Frogmore Cottage, environmental concerns were top of mind for the couple. Per the Sun, they used vegan, cruelty-free paints from the Organic & Natural Paint Co’s Auro line, and installed a £50,000 energy-efficient boiler in their new digs.

She's been known to frequent holistic spas.

Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan were spotted at Ilapothecary, a wellness store and organic-minded spa. "Our products are infused with powerful natural ingredients, including British grown herbs with a long history of healing, such as Borage and Thyme, and medicinal flowers such as Rose Geranium," Ilapothecary's website notes.

As the pair were inside for a while, some speculated that they had even gotten some of the store's spa treatments. "It was too long for a shop and the place offers treatments,' a source told Vanity Fair. "They were both very casually dressed and when they emerged, Harry looked quite sweaty and red in the face, suggesting he might have been doing some yoga or having some sort of a treatment."

Meghan loves sustainable fashion.

From her Veja sneakers to her Reformation dress, Meghan has made a habit of donning environmentally-minded labels.

The founder of DeMellier, a sustainable handbag brand, told Town & Country that she believes DeMellier's values are why royals like Meghan are so drawn to the label. "I am incredibly grateful that the values I believe in have resonated with the royal family and other women around the world," she said.

At her new home, she plans to grow her own organic produce.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Harry and Meghan will have an organic plot in the gardens of Frogmore Cottage. "The Duchess has a passion for cooking so it was suggested to include a small plot in the spacious garden where they can grow some of their own produce," a source told the publication. "She regularly cooks for Prince Harry and the cottage will be the perfect place for her to prepare meals with some home grown produce from their own garden. It is understood that she wants to be able grow vegetables, herbs and soft fruits."

She's following in the footsteps of her own eco-friendly mom.

By all accounts, Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is a nature-lover. "She walks her dogs multiple times a day, or takes them hiking," a source told People. "She is often spotted heading out with her yoga mat."

In an interview, Meghan once revealed, "Growing up in southern California... I loved gardening and growing my own vegetables," per the Daily Mail. "That farm-to-table ethos was ingrained at such a young age."
