Sophia Visanji is kind of a Clark Kent. By day, the Canadian turned New Yorker is an optometrist. The rest of the time, she’s the Monocle Muse.
That’s the name she came up with for her alter ego, blog, and Instagram account, where she mixes cool eyewear with street-style trends, sprinkling in glimpses of her world travels (and her Canadian roots).
“Optometry is great and I enjoy it, but I’ve always been creative and loved photography, fashion, design, and art,” says Visanji. “So early 2016, I decided to start blogging. At first it was a passion project; now it’s grown to the point where I’ve had to go down to four days in the office.”
Speaking of her 9-to-5, Visanji recently moved from her midtown Manhattan office to a new one on the Upper West Side. “It’s medically inclined versus retail oriented, so I’ll be dealing more with ocular disease, which is really interesting to me,” she says. “It’s a little less fast-paced and more family-focused.”

To prepare for her new venture, Visanji decided to take the two-week #OlayBodyWashChallenge. “My skin can get super dry.
