6-Year-Old Dog Surrendered to Florida Shelter Only Wants to Be Close to Humans

Bringing home a new furry friend can be so exciting, but the process of meeting dogs at the shelter can be bittersweet. Afterall, it's so hard to see loving animals waiting patiently in kennels! Even though many of them will be heading to their forever homes very soon, simply meeting shelter dogs and hearing their stories can be enough to bring a person to tears.

Just ask the selfless people who work and volunteer at the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They welcome so many sweet animals into their facility every day , and the ways they talk about the animals is so heartwarming. They recently took in a 6-year-old pup named Kane to their animal shelter after his family lost their home, and now they're cheering him on as he looks for a new forever home.

Aww--what a sweet boy! Kane seems so happy to see people, and so attentive when he's interacting with a person. His eyes almost look human, too, but nothing is as precious as those bouncy ears!

As adorable as this beautiful shelter dog is, it's impossible to deny how distraught he is about his new living situation. Just like commenter @fran.cat37 pointed out, "This dog breed gets so attached to their family. Kane, I hope someone sees you and gets you out of the shelter." I hope so too! It must feel like his life is completely upending after spending 6 years with his first family, only to end up at @humanebroward.

How to Help Shelter Dogs

The most obvious way to help shelter dogs is to adopt or foster. But if you aren't in a position to do so, there are other ways to make impactful contributions.

You can volunteer to walk or play shelter dogs in your free time. You can also check a shelter's website for a list of needed supplies and make a donation, whether you shop from a needs' list or donate funds. Even the simple act of helping spread the word on social media about animals who need homes can have an impact.

Back to the lovable pup in this video. Despite all the love this big Pit Bull is getting from commenters and viewers, what he really needs is an adopter. He'll need time to adjust, of course, but this attention-loving pup is going to make the right person or people so happy.
