Luxury train travel is back and better than ever. With the reintroduction and expansion of iconic lines like Eastern & Oriental Express, a Belmond Train, which runs through Southeast Asia (and is one of Travel + Leisure's top 50 places to travel in 2024), as well as classic itineraries like a winter journey through Alaska, travelers are spoiled for choice.

From high-speed routes connecting Indonesia’s can’t-miss cities to a line that takes passengers from Cancun to the lush beaches of Mexico, these are the best trains to book in 2024.

The Brightline — Florida

This new Florida high-speed rail connects Orlando and Miami, with stops in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura.

The Whoosh — Indonesia

A high-speed train in Indonesia debuted this fall that links two of Java’s largest cities, Jakarta and Bandung. Known as Whoosh, the train tops out at 215 mph and has cut the three-hour journey down to less than 60 minutes.

The Tren Maya — Mexico

In Mexico, the much-anticipated Tren Maya will begin rolling out this winter and eventually will loop around the Yucatán Peninsula, connecting Cancún International Airport with more than a dozen destinations, including Tulum, Mérida, and Palenque.

The European Sleeper and Nightjet

European overnight trains are back. The European Sleeper launched in May and runs between Brussels and Berlin, with stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. The line will extend to Dresden and Prague in 2024.

Also in Europe: Nightjet, which connects more than 25 cities, will again offer overnight rail service between Berlin and Paris this winter, after a nine-year hiatus.

The Acela — The Northeast Corridor

The next generation of Amtrak’s Acela, which runs along the Northeast Corridor, goes on line in 2024. The 28 high-speed trains will reach speeds of up to 160 mph (10 mph more than current models).
