The Classique is an excellent jersey for the rider who wants a touch of classic style, but not the flourishes—both fashionable and historical—that come with some other brands' limited-edition heritage pieces. If the Lombardia jersey is thoroughly rooted in European racing history, Bontrager’s Classique studiously avoids such specific references. It’s no less stylish for that, with a subtle and understated tricolor graphic on the left breast and right rear pocket, against a single-color fabric available in a sunny sky blue or a severe dark grey called Smoke.
The fabric itself is something Bontrager calls Profila Thermal, essentially a knit merino textile offering wool’s pleasing blend of softness and warmth. The fit is snug, with generously long sleeves, a moderate-drop tail, and a draft flap behind the full-length zipper. On the outside of the right rear pocket is a small, water-resistant pocket with a snap cover, but it won’t fit larger phones like the iPhone 6 or Samsung “phablets.” Modest reflective piping runs the length of the outside pocket seams. $230. —Joe Lindsey
