6 Editors Spent the Day Wearing Pat McGrath’s Lust 004 Lips

Pat McGrath’s highly coveted Lust 004 lip kit went on sale today, and her website has already crashed due to heavy demand. We’ve seen the look on runways and red carpets and in magazines, but what’s it really like to wear it? Six of our editors put Lust 004 to the test.

I would definitely wear this again on an occasion when I want to turn heads and dazzle everyone! Probably for an event like my company’s yearly holiday bash, where we dress to impress, and glitter and sparkles are a must. The lipstick felt smooth on my lips, not drying at all. I was a little worried about the glitter at first because I wasn’t used to it, but it held up pretty well. I would totally be able to re-create the look and even add my own touch to the look if I had this kit. I can see myself creating more of an ombré lip with both lipstick colors and then applying the glitter on top. I actually wore the lip color outside during the daytime and I noticed more people staring at me, in a good way! One little girl and her mother started talking to me on the train because they wanted to compliment the look and ask what it was.

I had it on my lips for about two hours before removing it. I didn’t get a chance to eat while wearing it, but I can definitely tell that the glitter wouldn’t hold up as well if I had a meal and a drink. Either way, I would still recommend the kit and use it again, because to me this is more of a glamour collection, so it’s not really meant for everyday wear. But it would certainly serve its purpose of stunning others on a fun night out on the town!

I put on the lipstick at 10:30 in the morning and was on a mission to make it last all night. I went to a friend’s David Bowie-themed birthday party after work, and the glitter glam was too perfectly on theme, but in the office it looked out of place. It was a little uncomfortable, especially on my very dry skin, but the glitter stayed on surprisingly well. I drank through a straw and ate like a weirdo, but I dabbed a little Vaseline just inside my top and bottom lips to redistribute the product, and made it to the party looking just as fabulous as I did right after it was applied. I got home at a ridiculous hour and it didn’t look so hot at that point, but no lipstick would. I’m impressed.

I’m a bold-lip kind of girl, so I absolutely loved the way this looked on me. I typically gravitate toward brighter reds, but wearing the deeper, richer red has really changed the way I perceive this classic lip color. It felt like I was wearing Pixy Stix Candy on my lips. The glitter was super fine compared with the ones you’d find at the Halloween store or prepackaged in costume makeup kits. Though I had to keep reminding myself not to move my lips too much!

Oh, the looks I got while walking around the office with these statement lips! As Beauty director, it felt like another day on the j-o-b. However, I could sense behind all the stares and smiles I received from co-workers that they were wondering why I was wearing such a glamorous look on a casual Friday. I ate quite a large lunch while wearing this lip look — grilled tilapia, white rice, and steamed vegetables. The glitter held up mostly on the outer corners of my mouth but slowly faded away within the center. I did a 20-minute Facebook Live segment and it held on strong throughout all the talking. However, I gave in four hours later, grabbed some makeup remover wipes, and swiped away this beautiful lip look. It would probably take some trial and lots of error to pack on the glitter to this intensity on my own.

I was honestly obsessed with my lips the entire time I wore Pat McGrath’s Lust lipstick. The pigmentation and glitter looked so amazing on the lips, and I would totally wear it again, but maybe more for Halloween or somewhere it’s appropriate. The glitter felt super lightweight and didn’t bother me at all for the six hours I kept on the lipstick. I would definitely need to practice, but I think I would be able to handle re-creating the look. I’ll admit, I did feel a little “drag queen-ish” wearing these red glitter lips in an office environment.

I tried my best to eat neatly, without being a mess and having to wipe my entire mouth. However, I did eventually have to wipe the corners of my mouth and it did come off a bit. I lasted about six hours with the lips before I took it off to go home, but if I didn’t wipe (scrub) off the lipstick, it probably would’ve lasted another six hours if I wanted to keep it on.

I’m not someone that regularly wears lipstick, particularly red lipstick, so this color was very new for me. My usual beauty routine involves applying lip balm and not much else. On the occasion I do wear lip color, I try to find one that is also moisturizing, which made this one a bit of a challenge for me — the combination of the matte lipstick and glitter felt incredibly drying on my lips.

In the end, I really did like the final look. I’m just not sure I would have the patience to keep it on for longer than an hour without it becoming something of a nuisance. Instead, I took it off as soon as the shoot was over and applied a thick layer of lip balm.

I cannot see myself wearing this regularly, but I did like how it looked on me for a unique night out, like ’80s night or Halloween. Surprisingly, my lips felt comfortable wearing it, but I don’t have enough skills to re-create the look.

Wearing it around the office, I felt incredibly shy! I def was walking with my head down. The lips ask for attention and I did not want this kind of attention in the office. Once I tried eating in it, I had to remove it. The glitter was getting into my teeth.
