6 Earth Day Crafts for Kids
Earth Day falls on April 22, and it's the perfect opportunity to celebrate our planet and environment. Teach your kids how to reduce, reuse, and recycle with these six fun and easy Earth Day crafts.
Bird Feeder
Upcycle a half-gallon milk carton into an adorable homemade bird feeder! This DIY project requires supplies you probably already have at home, like an X-Acto knife, acrylic paint, and buttons (although you can easily substitute them for other items). Nature Collages
Take a walk in your background or a nearby park, and encourage your children to scour the ground for non-living nature items—fallen leaves, twigs, acorns, etc. At home, your kids can glue the items onto a sheet of paper for an “upcycled nature collage.” Paint, markers, and crayons add the finishing touches!
Wind Chimes
You probably have a solid stash of tin cans in your pantry. Save these cans every time make soup, beans, tuna salad, or tomato sauce. With a few tools, decorating supplies, and online instructions (such as these ones), you can turn them into DIY wind chimes.

Recycling Boxes
We all know the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” mantra for environmental preservation. Teach it to your kids while they create DIY recycling bins! Start by gathering up mid-sized cardboard boxes. Let your kids decorate them with markers, paint, collage-style artwork, and other supplies. Each box can be dedicated to a recyclable material like paper, plastic, glass, and metal.
Cloth Napkins
Cloth napkins aren't just for special occasions anymore. Have your kids personalize a set with fabric paint. After they’re dry, use the napkins for several meals before popping them in the wash.
Bottle Cap Magnets
Gather used bottle caps, then have your kids attach craft foam, googly eyes, and pipe cleaners with tacky glue. Add details with markers. Before attaching a magnet to the back of each cap, glue a scrap of cardboard or two inside so that the magnet will be flush with the cap's edge.
