When it comes to navigating the influences of the stars, you likely need a little guidance. And, no, I’m not talking about your birth chart. The array of astrology apps available make it easier than ever to dive deeper into a more nuanced understanding of yourself and those around you.

That said, it’s not so easy to determine which astrology app is best for you (we understand your frustration, Libra). So we researched the best astrology apps for all types of users--from the astro curious to the astro enthusiast--to help you align your inner explorations with the outer reaches of space in a way that suits your needs.

1. Chani, free (premium available)

Started by well-known astrologer Chani Nicholas, Chani caught me by surprise with its diverse features. On its homepage, you’re greeted with a horoscope based on your birth chart, providing some perspective to your day and prompting you to dig in deeper with its probing questions. As you scroll, the app identifies the current Moon phase and sign--helpful barometers if you want to learn the lunar cycle or track your current mood relative to the Moon.

The app also offers a general “meditation of the day” as well as audio-based affirmations. However, these features come at an additional cost ($11.99/month).

2. AstrologyZone, free (premium available)

Wanting to just take a peek at astrology? This app, created by Susan Miller, may be the ideal option for you. The free version delivers daily and monthly horoscopes and, unlike other apps which might overwhelm you with detailed horoscopes, it shares an abbreviated version that’s more manageable if you’re new to astro talk.

Many of the app’s more comprehensive features--including lengthier horoscopes, detailed packages on relationships and health, and gift guides for each sign--require a premium subscription ($4.99/week).

3. Astro Future, free (premium available)

Interested in delving into your birth chart? Astro Future offers exactly that. Its interactive features allow you to click through the planets in your different houses and gain insight into the current planetary placements. (Visual learners, this app is for you.) However, access to the context behind certain transits, as well as compatibility tests with potential love interests, requires a premium subscription ($3.99/month).

While this app doesn’t seem to be particularly beginner-friendly, astrology experts will love the comprehensive chart mapping. Additionally, Astro Future provided the most concise yet detailed list of significant astrological dates for the entire year of all of these apps. Think of it as your year-long cheat sheet.

4. Nebula, $7.99/week

If you’re looking to learn more about your compatibility with your partner or friends, this is the app for you. Connecting with others is a core tenet of Nebula, which allows you to add the charts of others to your account, lending you insights into not only yourself but those around you (even if they’re not on the app).

Additionally, Nebula offers a breakdown of each sign at this particular moment in time. For example, if you’re dealing with an anxious Virgo, you can better understand what might be going on with them through a detailed description of their astrological forecast for the day, week, month, even year. Also, through the community section, you can scroll through posts made by other Nebula users commenting on their current relationship to the stars. When everyone at the dinner table is done talking about all things astrology, turn to this virtual community.

5. Co-Star, free (premium features available)

There’s no denying this astrology app’s popularity: 20% of young people in the United States have downloaded Co-Star, according to its founder and CEO, Banu Guler. Described as “the app that deciphers the mystery of human relations through NASA data and biting truth,” this platform takes a slightly different approach to providing astrological insights. Like Nebula, it offers a robust community platform, allowing you to connect with other enthusiasts and gain insights into your friends’ charts.

The slightly snarky style of the app tends to appeal largely to casual astrological followers. Your daily horoscope shares an overarching recap and calls out specific areas of “power” and those of “trouble.” You can opt to purchase detailed readings (a one-time fee of $8.99 for each category) or explore relationship compatibility with “Eros” ($6.99/month). Whether or not you opt to purchase the app membership, Co-Star’s Instagram account is certainly worth a follow.

6. Soulloop, $12.99/month

This app allows you to integrate your astrological understanding into your other awareness practices. Combining yoga, meditation, and digital journaling, Soulloop enables you to fuse movement and mindfulness with the planets and stars via a transit chart outlining short- and long-term celestial happenings and how they’ll likely influence you.

I found myself particularly drawn to the app’s designated “journeys.” These themes--which include topics such as communication, personal relationships, and creativity--offer personalized meditations, prompts, and exercises based on your chart. It’s one-stop shopping for an introspective understanding of how the stars relate to other areas of your life.
