It’s been seven years, but we still would love a sequel to the classic gay film Call Me by Your Name.

HBO/Sony Pictures Classics/Paramount Pictures

Unfortunately, one of the main stars of the movie, Armie Hammer, has found himself at the center of several controversies involving sexual harassment, violent sexual fantasies, and cannibalism. With Hammer having put his acting career on the back burner, we’ll need a new actor to play the older half of the couple Elio and Oliver.

Oliver, unlike Elio, is confident and carefree, he’s the typical clean-cut All-American man-next-door. He’s definitely a hunk, and he’s 7 years older than the more introverted and introspective Elio (played by Timothée Chalamet.)

Director Luca Guadagnino has expressed his interest in making a sequel to the film, which was originally released in 2017.

“It’s a wish and a desire, and I have not made up my mind about what would be the story,” Guadagnino said to Variety in 2022. “I would love to make a second and third and fourth chapter of all my movies. Why? Because I truly love the actors I work with, so I want to repeat the joy of doing what we did together.”

While Chalamet would probably be open to coming back for a sequel, Hammer is almost definitely not. So here are six actors we think would be perfect to step into Oliver’s shoes in a Call Me by Your Name sequel.

Jamie Dornan

Universal Pictures

Talk about a hunk! Jamie Dornan, also known as “the Golden Torso” during his modeling days, has starred in movies like Belfast and Marie Antoinette. He’s most known for playing the sexually dominant Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades franchise. Maybe in a sequel, he could introduce Elio to his Red Room...

Theo James

HBO

Theo James is fresh off of playing cocky and headstrong rich boy Cameron Sullivan in The White Lotus, and he could bring that attitude to Oliver in a CMBYN sequel. The handsome Brit has also starred in the Divergent and Underworld franchises, so he knows how to handle a sequel!

Sebastian Stan

Sebastian Stan is probably most known for playing Bucky in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the chemistry he had there with his male co-star Chris Evans' Captain America famously launched a thousand fanfics. He’s played sexy guys in Pam & Tommy and Fresh and would bring his beautiful blue eyes to Elio’s life.

Glen Powell

Few actors are hotter than Glen Powell right now. If you want someone who has the Oliver look nailed down, the 35-year-old Powell is the perfect choice. The star of Hidden Figures, Set It Up, Top Gun: Maverick, and the upcoming Anyone But You is basically Armie Hammer, but without the baggage.

Richard Madden

Richard Madden is one of the most handsome men on earth, and he's shown it off in movies like 1917, Rocketman, and Eternals. The former Robb Stark would make a perfect Oliver.

Andrew Garfield

Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios

Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield would need to bulk up a little bit for the role, but we’d love to see him as Oliver! He’d bring a more academic edge to Oliver, who in the first film was a graduate student.
