At 58, Paulina Porizkova Posts ‘No Makeup’ Selfie to ‘Embrace’ Aging and Fans Lose It

Paulina Porizkova went bare-faced on Instagram to reflect on 2023 and discuss comparison and aging.
Fans appreciated her words of wisdom.
“Happy New Year all of you. Let’s make kindness and generosity be the outcome of our comparisons,” she wrote.
Paulina Porizkova always has a wise message to share, and her new year reflection was no different. The 58-year-old supermodel shared a bare-faced selfie (or as she put it, #NoMakeup) to discuss comparison and aging, and fans thanked her for shedding light on a complex but important topic.
Porizkova began by introducing the general mental trap that is comparison—the fact that it inevitably breeds guilt or shame, regardless of its context. She added that, although many of her peers, family, and people around the world endured great hardship in 2023, she “bloomed.”
She went on to specifically address how comparison plays a part in the pro-aging advocacy for which she’s become so well known: She shares filter-free selfies and the like because she would “love to see selfies of other women embracing, or trying to embrace their age and themselves,” adding: “So that I can, yes, compare.”
But that doesn’t always have to be a bad thing, she noted. “Instead of nurturing shame, I try to feel inspired by those I compare ‘up’ to,” she continued. “And when confronted by guilt of comparing down, I can use it to be more compassionate and helpful; I can put my guilt to work.”
Porizkova concluded: “Our actions are what ultimately counts. Happy New Year all of you. Let’s make kindness and generosity be the outcome of our comparisons.”
Fans and followers chimed in to, yet again, thank the star for her candidness and vulnerability. “Each time I see you living your beautiful truth, I’m encouraged to embrace myself more the way I am. Thank you!” one person commented. “I couldn’t agree more. You are absolutely gorgeous and an inspiration to all women. In one of Porizkova’s other recent makeup-free posts, she proudly celebrated her age. “Outside, I have changed. I’m told by society—for the worse,” she wrote. “Inside, I have also changed. I’m told by those who matter—for the better. When I close my eyes, I have never felt so desirable or beautiful. When I open them, the world has never been as beautiful as it is now. So another gulp of self-acceptance. Maybe, one day I can just look and see myself as I see others.”
2023 may be over, but we look forward to Porizkova’s continued musings of enlightenment in 2024.
