58-year-old Man Dies While Running Annual Walt Disney World Race

Walt Disney World's annual race event took a tragic turn this past weekend when a 58-year-old man collapsed and died while running the 5K on Friday.

The race was part of the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, which started on Thursday and comprised of various runs leading up to the half marathon event on Sunday.

The man reportedly collapsed “on a bridge in front of the restrooms by the Imagination with Figment attraction," in Epcot, a Disney World spokesperson told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday. The medical examiner did not provide any other information about the man.

“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with the runner’s family and loved ones throughout this difficult time,” said another spokesperson for Walt Disney World Resort, told the outlet over the weekend.

A similar incident occurred in 2017 when a runner collapsed near the finish line of the half marathon.
