With multiple iconic TV roles behind her (see: Generations, Melrose Place, and Gossip Girl), at 54, Kelly Rutherford is maintaining upward trajectory. When she’s not working in front of the camera, she’s engaging with the tech world as the co-founder of the social media app Whyzzer and fulfilling parental duties as a mom of two (plus two dogs). All of the above keeps her quite busy, and her favorite way to unwind is with her robe and nighttime skincare, which includes L’Oréal Paris’ Age Perfect Midnight Cream.

“I like creams that are richer because my skin is dry,” she recently told Allure. The Midnight Cream is an ideal match, given that it has a medium texture that hydrates without feeling too heavy, and added vitamin E and antioxidants nourish and protect the skin to improve its barrier over time. In combination with the moisturizer, Rutherford added that she also uses the L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Midnight Serum (which Jane Fonda and Viola Davis also love).

“I think we’re all thinking about aging and wanting to age gracefully, so a lot of [what I like about it] are the ingredients and the anti-aging aspect to it,” Rutherford explained of the cream. “The texture just feels good on the skin. It smells very fresh and clean, and it’s not too heavily scented.”

And although the ingredients are the star of the show, Rutherford added that she equally appreciates that the packaging feels fancy, despite its drugstore origins.

“I think creams should always feel luxurious. I love the packaging. [The jar] is beautiful; the color combination is so chic,” she said. “It looks so pretty in my bathroom, and it looks very expensive. The weight of it is really nice. It feels like somebody put money and thought into it.”

The combination of a quality product inside an experiential capsule is what makes the moisturizer an ideal part of Rutherford’s evening downtime. “It makes me feel good that I’m doing something nice for myself, that I’m using a great product, and that I notice a difference in the texture of my skin,” she said. “My skin feels clearer and softer, but firm at the same time.”
