500-Foot Ski Area Is Turning Heads With New 8 Person Chairlift

Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Ontario, has completed its new Doppelmayr D-Line Adventure 8 chairlift.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post shared late last week, the Canadian resort showed off the chairlift, which features heated seats, an adjustable loading carpet, and a base terminal screen dubbed the "Moonstone SnowTron."

According to Mount St. Louis Moonstone's website, the swanky new Adventure 8 will be Canada's first D-Line high-speed eight-pack. Doppelmayr, the chairlift's manufacturer, issued a press release earlier this year stating that the Adventure 8 "ranks among the most technologically advanced ropeways." It can move an impressive 4,250 skiers per hour.

To clarify any confusion, Mount St. Louis Moonstone isn't the only ski resort in Canada set to receive an eight-pack chairlift, even though Doppelmayr did write in its press release that Mount St. Louis Moonstone's Adventure 8 is "Canada's 1st high-speed 8-pack chairlift." Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, also has an eight-seater replacement on the way this winter in the form of the updated Fitzsimmons Express.

I imagine the slightly confusing statement from Doppelmayr involves the time frame in which the press release was published.

But that's getting in the weeds. Both chairs are new and exciting and are slated to open this season.

Notably, Whistler Blackcomb and Mount St. Louis Moonstone are on opposite sides of the ski resort size spectrum. Whistler Blackcomb, as you probably know, is massive. In contrast, Mount St. Louis Moonstone is relatively small, touting 170 acres of skiable terrain.

It begs the question: "Why does such a small resort need a high capacity chairlift?" I, unfortunately, don't have a concrete answer. But I imagine Mount St. Louis Moonstone locals won't have any complaints about the speedy ride and heated seats.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone (what a name, by the way) has yet to announce its opening day.
