50-Year-Old Pet Tortoise Turns Up a Few Miles From Home 2 Years After Disappearing

Anyone who's experienced the anxiety of a missing pet can understand just how thrilled this UK family was when they found out their pet tortoise, Jemima, turned up after a 2-year-long disappearance. The 50-year-old tortoise made a "slow getaway" from her home, but no one in her family was able to find her.

Charles Wadell and his family definitely did not expect to get this kind of news so long after Jemima's great escape. The family's daughter, Beatrice, and their other tortoise, Gorgina, couldn't be happier to have their friend back!

What a perfect reunion! The happy family shared the good news on several public Facebook groups after everyone was back together again, but how in the world did Jemima find her way back to her family?

As the post explains, a good samaritan contacted the family after someone brought the tortoise to a local vet's office. Thanks to strangers' kindness, the reptile received plenty of TLC until she was able to go home with her true family.

We have no doubt that this tortoise's owners will watch her even closer from now on. As Charles explained to Mirror, "We inherited Jemima from my father when he passed away in 2016. She must be around 50. But one day in May 2021 she just managed to get out. They move a lot quicker than you think – she definitely outfoxed us." She really did! Luckily, this adult tortoise managed to survive two whole years in the wild--hibernation and all. We're sure she's glad to be back in the luxury of her home, though!
