As millions of Americans take a stand against police brutality and racial injustices in this country, it's important to remember that there are so many different ways to support the Black community. Connecting with your local officials, voicing your thoughts at a protest, or sharing data on social media is one way to let people know where you stand, but taking actionable steps toward real change is essential. There are so many ways to do this, like donating to causes and bail funds or supporting Black-owned businesses in your community and beyond.

Although the latter may not seem important in the grand scheme of things, it actually is — especially as the country deals with a global pandemic that's affecting the economy. Research has shown that, historically, Black-owned businesses have had a harder time accessing loans and capital. So making the choice to spend your money at a Black-owned business rather than your usual go-to is an easy way to join the fight against systematic racism. At first you may think there aren't a lot of Black-owned businesses in your area. But if you do a little digging, you'll find that there are some in your state, if not your town or city.
