5 Women Try Kate Middleton’s Favorite Lip Gloss

While it's common to see your favorite celebrity touch up her lipstick in public or share zit cream selfies to Instagram, the royals are much more private. Unfortunately for us, that means tracking down the exact products behind Meghan Markle's glowing skin or Kate Middleton's perfect blowout is nearly impossible, save for what their glam teams let slip in interviews.

With Markle, at least, we have more to work worth thanks to her Hollywood past. But given that Middleton went straight from one of us to royalty (the dream), there's little to no information on her beauty products of choice, other than speculation that's slipped from British tabloids over the years. That's why it was such a game changer when the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted with a beauty product in hand earlier this month at Wimbledon.

A Twitter fan account quickly ID'd the millennial pink tube as Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose, and it appears they are correct—the only thing up for debate might be the exact shade, but the tube Kate has is closest to Rose.

The brand describes the Lip Perfector as having a "melting gel" texture and "nourishing formula [that] delivers intense hydration with a hint of shimmer." Essentially, it's like a hybrid of a lip gloss and lip balm. This low-key product fits right in with Middleton's natural makeup style, which usually consists only of eyeliner, mascara, a touch of blush, and a rosy lip color.

If it's good enough for royalty, it's got to be good enough for us, right? We had five Glamour staffers put the Lip Perfector to the test. Read on for our honest thoughts.

My first thought about this lip gloss is that it’s super smooth and moisturizing. I can totally see why Kate Middleton would want to wear this regularly, because my lips feel nourished all the time. I like that it’s a sheer shade of pink that adapts to my natural lip color, perfect for a "no makeup" look in the summer.

When I was first getting into makeup, my grandma gave me a tube of this, so I'll always associate it with her. It's really nice to have on hand, but not necessarily something I would go out of my way to use. The texture is nice and creamy, and it leaves my lips feeling soft and nourished. I prefer my glosses to be either a little more tinted or a little more glossy, but the feeling of this is truly unmatched. It's nice for a low-key day or when I don't want to layer a balm and a gloss.

I'm always scared to use lip gloss because I have pretty small lips and feel like it makes them look smaller. But recently I feel like I've seen everyone wearing lip gloss (I blame Glossier) and have decided maybe I should give it another try. As it turns out, lip gloss is a lot better than I remember, and this one from Clarins looked really nice on top of my everyday nude lip. I definitely had to apply more than I thought I would for it to really make a difference, but once I did, I realized it made my lips look fuller. I'm here for it.

Now I understand why Clarins calls this the Lip Perfector. It provides the perfect amount of moisture that lasts hours. I can definitely see myself swiping this on during the day without a mirror, just as Kate did. My only caveat: The Rose shimmer color is a little too light for my complexion but looks great over my Maybelline Super Stay Crayon.

This gloss is super light—truly a gloss for when you don’t want to feel or look as if you’re wearing any makeup, which could be a make or break, depending on the vibe you're going for. The applicator is super nice, though, and helps spread the product evenly and smoothly. The fact that I got compliments on something that looks literally like nothing is kind of wild. In a good way.
