5 Unbelievable Christmas Events You Have to Experience in Galveston

This year, the 2019 holiday lineup in Galveston Island, Texas is shaping up to be better than ever. Whether you seek over-the-top light displays or otherworldly pecan pie, there's something for everyone along Galveston's famed Pleasure Pier and beyond. Here are our five of our favorites to add to your list.
1. Meet Surfing Santa.
We said something for everyone, didn't we? For those who like to catch their Christmas thrills on the water, head to Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston. Santa will be on the Boogie Bahn ride catching waves multiple times per day on weekends throughout December in the indoor section of the park, which remains open in the winter.
2. Hitch a Ride to the North Pole.
If you prefer to meet Santa on land, hop on the The Polar Express Train Ride, which youngsters will particularly love. The fun-filled one-hour journey features The Polar Express reenacted by actors aboard the train and culminates with meeting Santa. Trains run on weekends and select dates from November 15th to December 29th.
3. Celebrate the season at Dickens on The Strand.
On December 6th through 8th, this festival channels the best of Charles Dickens' era with carolers, live performances, Victorian-inspired gifts, and more. An annual event from Galveston Historical Foundation, expect plenty of tasty food, costumed characters, and holiday merriment. You may even encounter descendants of Dickens, who travel from London each year to come to this special event.

4. Explore ICE LAND at Moody Gardens.
For Christmas enthusiasts, it doesn't get much better than a 28,00-square-foot ice scultpure. The ICE LAND exhibit—open November 16th through January 12th—is made up of ice carvings that would stun even your art major aunt. This year, the theme is "Christmas Around the World," with designs inspired by Russia, Egypt, China, and more.
5. Eat Gaido's pecan pie.
It wouldn't be the holiday season without pie, lots and lots of pie. Before you skip town, stop by Gaido's Seafood Restaurant, which has been open for more than 100 years. Their secret family recipe has an all-pecan crust and magic dust, but beyond that, we can't tell you much more other than you have to taste it.
