MTV Cribs was my binge-watch obsession before binge-watching was even a thing. The show, which first came out in 2000 and had a whopping 17 seasons, was a fan favorite. It took viewers into the ridiculous world of celebrity mansions, and you couldn't help but feel a slice of jealousy every time you'd watch the butlers, cars, and over-the-top estates.

But, as it turns out, you don't have to seethe with envy. Several of these "celebrity homes" weren't actually celebrity homes, according to reports (some straight from the stars themselves!), but properties stars would rent when going on the show. Without trying to ruin your youth, here are the top moments celebrities and Cribs lied to us.

Some celebrities borrowed other stars' homes.

I don't know if I can blame anyone for this - I mean, I have friends whose homes I much rather call my own then the apartment I live in. Then again, the show was called Cribs, not My Friend's Crib.

Two stars were rumored to be guilty of this Cribs crime: the first being Damon Dash, who allegedly rented Mariah Carey's London home for his episode. Then there was British pop star Robbie Williams, who allegedly used Jane Seymour's house,The Guardian reported, and even hired butlers to appear in the episode.

And some didn't even have an actual home to film.

When JoJo filmed her episode in 2005, she was actually living in a hotel, she told the Daily Star in 2015. "We didn't have a home at that point. My mom and I were living out of suitcases and were mostly in hotels. So that was actually my uncle's house, on the Cape. That wasn't my house," she said. In the episode, she describes the house as her vacation home that she spends most of her summers in.

If MTV wasn't impressed with a house, they'd try to get the celebrity to rent one instead.

This isn't technically a lie that Cribs told us, but it shows you what went into the programing. In a 2015 interview with DJ Vlad, Redman said that producers weren't pleased with his Staten Island home and tried to convince him to rent one instead.

"They wanted me to rent a house, so I could open the big double doors," he said. "My sh*t was a little junkie, I didn't have time to clean, and they loved it and it all worked out for the best."

When Ja Rule rented a house for the show, he ended up getting sued.

In a 2004 episode of Cribs, Ja Rule rented a mansion for the show. While he was open about it, he never received permission from the landlord to actually film the episode at the house. The show cost him a lawsuit, where the owner sued Ja Rule for filming and throwing a 600-guest party.
