Here are 5 spots to find spring flowers in full bloom near Des Moines

April showers are finally giving way to spring flowers. Plenty of arboretums and gardens across the Des Moines metro are in full bloom.

Here's where you can spot some flowers near Des Moines:

Ewing Park Lilac Arboretum

Des Moines' 77-year-old arboretum is in full bloom this week, according to a news release. The 35-acre display features 1,000 lilac bushes with over 300 varieties of the spring flower.

Arie Den Boer Arboretum

One of the world’s largest collections of flowering crabapple trees can be found at Water Works Park in Des Moines. The arboretum includes approximately 800 trees and the annual crabapple blossom usually blooms the last week of April and the first week of May, according to their website.

Reiman Gardens

Reiman Gardens in Ames is celebrating spring with whimsical fairy décor throughout the garden. It's peak tulip viewing time at the garden as well, until the end of April. But don't worry, there's plenty of other spring blooms too, like hyacinths and roses.

Enabling Garden

Part of the Polk County Master Gardener project, the Enabling Garden in Altoona was built to provide an area that illustrates gardening for physically impaired individuals, their website says. The garden is home to a miniature fair garden, an interactive children's garden, plenty of spring perennials, sculptures and more.

Demonstration Garden

Also part of the Polk County Master Gardener project, the Urbandale Demonstration Garden is full of spring trees, bushes and shrubs. You can find plenty of crocus, daffodils and tulips this time of the year.
