This 5-Minute Abs Workout Takes Less Time Than Brewing A Cup Of Coffee

There's no feeling quite as satisfying as finishing a sweaty, spicy abs workout that leaves your core feeling strong. Even better? When all that work gets accomplished in—gasp!—only five minutes. That's exactly what you'll get with this quick five-minute abs workout that only requires a single dumbbell.

Meet the expert: Claudette Sariya, CPT, is a trainer and group fitness instructor at New York City's West Village Athletic.

The workout consists of eight core-focused exercises, including sit-ups with crossbody punches, toe touches, Russian twists, plank jacks, and more. You will perform each move for 30 seconds before moving onto the next exercise. To wrap the session, you'll hold a forearm plank to the finish.

The catch? The goal is to move through the five minutes of work without taking rest breaks. But if you need to pause to catch your breath or have a sip of water, you do you! Recover as needed and keep coming back to the workout to get stronger, advises Claudette Sariya, CPT.

Know this: The short-and-sweet workout is designed to be a challenge. But Sariya also demonstrations modifications for various exercises throughout the workout. (Read: Meet yourself wherever you are at!) "This is the hardest thing you'll do today," she says in the video.

Unsure about what dumbbell weight to pick? Start with something light if you're a beginner, such as 3 to 5 pounds. If you're more advanced, go with what you consider a medium dumbbell weight, which may be closer to anywhere from 8 to 15 pounds. You can also sub in other forms of resistance if needed, such as a medicine ball or single kettlebell. (FYI: You can perform the moves as bodyweight exercises if you don't have equipment.)

This quick abs workout is an effective standalone workout if you're looking to zero in on your core strength. Or, if you're more advanced or just have extra gas in the tank, tack it on at the end of your usual workout as a finisher. Ready, set, sweat!
