With another royal wedding on the horizon (hi there, Megs and Harry), we can’t help but feel a little nostalgic about Kate Middleton and Prince William's big day. So, as we indulge in all the royal mania, here are five major ways that Meg and Prince Harry’s wedding day will differ from Kate and Prince William’s...because there's no use in pretending we can think of anything other than the royal wedding these days, amirite? 

THE INVITATIONS

Although both royal wedding invitations look similar upon first glance, there’s a slight difference in formality. While Prince William and Kate Middleton’s invites were sent by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry and Markle’s came courtesy of Prince Charles. 

THE LOCATION

Kate and William tied the knot at the Westminster Abbey, in London. Harry and Meghan, however, went for the more relaxed (as far as royal wedding locations go) option of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, England.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

While Meghan and Harry have tapped fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski for their big day, Kate and Will went the more traditional route and opted for royal photographer Hugo Burnand. 

THE FLOWERS

Kate Middleton abided by the royal flower code popularized by Queen Victoria and selected lily of the valley, myrtle, hornbeam and field maples for her wedding bouquet. While Markle also plans to integrate hornbeam into her wedding floralscape, she also added beech, birch, peonies and foxgloves for a more rustic modern feel. The soon-to-be royal threw in some white garden roses, too, as an effort to pay tribute to Princess Diana.

THE CAKE

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry definitely bucked tradition when it comes to wedding confections. While Prince William and Kate Middleton chose a grandiose tiered fruitcake (Ew? But hey, it’s tradition), Meghan and Harry instead landed on a lemon elderflower cake from Violet Cake London.
