At-home workouts are — and have been — having a moment. From high-tech equipment to digital platforms and interactive apps, all the main players have not only leveled up their game, but also new innovators have joined in, too. Whether you’re all about yoga, need a motivating personality to get you moving, want a complete lifestyle overhaul with recipes and meditations as well as workouts, or simply want a running app that finally gets it right, there’s definitely a fitness app out there for you. Here, we curated a streamlined selection of the apps we’re super excited about.

AloMoves

If you’re a fan of Alo leggings, you won’t want to miss the chic clothing brand’s namesake workout platform. It offers a mix of pilates, yoga, meditation, and strength-focused workouts, and also features well known faves like a cardio-sculpt DanceBody series with founder Katia Pryce and nutrition advice coupled with healthy recipes via Nicole Berrie’s Bonberi.

They also offer holistic non-workout add-ons like reiki, breathwork, and sound therapy, as well as face yoga and dry brushing techniques. A subtle but worthwhile standout: the workout environments range from poolside to beachfront and in-studio for visual variation. And in May 2023, they launched Summer Sculpt Sizzle, a 14-day series led by two new trainers Jeffrey Alan and Meghan McFerran, delivering 10 to 30-minute classes purposely curated to make it easy to squeeze in a quickie sweat sesh or stack classes back-to-back when you’re on-the-go.

Future

Love the idea of working out with a trainer one-on-one but hit some hurdles in finding the right fit? It can be challenging to find someone that checks all the boxes: cost, location, time slot, personality, and workout style. Consider Future, customized personal training from your phone.

It’s super simple to get started. First, answer the easy-to-navigate, 3-minute multiple choice questionnaire — hitting on important topics like your fitness goals, trainer personality preferences, what motivates you to stay active, and more. Next, select your trainer from their customized picks of hundreds of options (and don’t worry, you can switch if it’s not the perfect match). After a video call where you ‘meet’ your pro and they learn even more about you, they’ll upload an initial workout that utilizes pre-recorded videos of the moves. You can then record yourself performing the moves, so they can assess your mobility and fitness IRL. After that, just follow your weekly regimen on your phone (or screen mirror to a TV or tablet). Pro tip: be sure to sync your fit tracker, so your trainer can monitor your heart rate and calorie burn.

The best part: you’re more likely to stay accountable because of your trainer’s check-ins via the app’s DM and personalized voiceovers. Need a day off? Add your OOO (out of office) dates into the app, so they know not to line up a session. Or, you can even give them the info for the hotel you're staying at, so they can look into gym offerings and curate moves that align with the equipment you'll have access to.

Lululemon Studio Mirror

Formerly known as The Mirror, this streaming workout app gives you access to more than 10,000 workouts at a click of a button — from barre to yoga, boxing, dance cardio, pilates, strength workouts, and more. The current catch is that you do have to purchase the sleek mirror (which is white glove-delivered and installed) to access the content and join your favorite trainers and workouts (including AKT, Rumble, Pure Barre, Y7 Studio, and Dogpound).

Want to upgrade your workout? Invest in their Bluetooth-enabled weights and let the app count your reps for you. Get interactive with fellow classmates by clicking into live classes and sending emoji feedback from your phone that then pops up on the mirror. You may even get a shoutout from your trainer in real-time.

New classes are debuting this summer, including Trap Cardio by Amber Chambers, a type of aerobics that syncs music to movement using booty bands and dumbbells, plus Reformer on the Mat taught by Patricia Sabulis, utilizing resistance bands and sliding discs. Later this summer, the beloved athleisure brand will also allow access to content via the app without needing to purchase the mirror component.

Peloton

Peloton revolutionized the at-home bike and treadmill game, and the brand continues to innovate. Their outside guided runs are a fave for Peloton-ites who want to venture outside their home or gym. For example, try the 30-minute Pop Run where your fitness pro walks you through your warm-up (think shoulder rolls and stretching) and then narrates your run journey, including the ideal landscape and exactly how you should be breathing and feeling to hit the right pace. Or, simply click the 10-minute cooldown to end your own personal sesh.

Last month, Peloton debuted three new membership tiers including a free, no credit card required option: Peloton Free App. This accessible app is more affordable than the monthly app: $12.99 plus tax without the bike, or the $44 monthly fee for the app with the bike. The free version even includes access to totally new content called Peloton Gym, featuring gym-inspired workouts with easy-to-follow move descriptions and short video demos. Next is Peloton App One, for those who want to join in on additional workouts, plus on-demand and live sessions ($12.99/month or $129/year). Lastly, Peloton App+ (the top tier of which starts at $24/month or $240/year) gives you all things Peloton, including exclusive specialty content.

Centr

If you want a well-rounded one-stop-shop app to help you on your healthy lifestyle journey, this one is for you. Created by actor and fitness fanatic Chris Hemsworth (who stars in Discovery’s Limitless by Chris Hemsworth), your initiation starts off with a series of questions to gauge your goals and customizes an all-encompassing plan that hits three tiers: movement, meals, and mind.

The app will drop a new personalized schedule in your queue every Thursday for the upcoming week so you know what to expect. This can include coached or self-guided workouts, step-by-step dietitian-approved daily recipes for every meal, and other wellness tools such as a wide range of guided meditations. Each workout has a corresponding video where a pro visually or verbally walks you through the dynamics and how-to.
