Our 5 Favorite Pinterest Trend Predictions You'll Be Seeing Everywhere In 2024

Say hello to kitschy kitchens and coffee carts.

If you can count on any platform to predict the future when it comes to trends—to what everyone will be cooking to the color they'll be painting their nails—it's Pinterest.

Last year, the list consisted of stepped-up showers, vintage-meets-modern, more mushrooms, romcom core, alcohol alternatives, and apothecary aesthetics and more. Pretty much each one had a moment in 2023.

Kitschens

Get ready to cook up a party: Minimalism is out, and all things playful are in for kitchens this year. According to the trend report, Pinterest has seen an uptick in searches for “eccentric kitchen” (160%), “kitschy kitchen” (75%), “eclectic kitchen decor” (50%), and “retro pink kitchens” (40%). Think bright colors, hidden knick-knacks, fun framed prints, and an emphasis on dopamine decor. Gen X and Boomers led these increases, but younger, at-home designers are sure to catch on, too.

Hot Metals

It seems like you can almost always find metals on a trend list—whether we're wearing them, decorating with them, or crafting with them. And that’s not about to change in 2024. Think of Salvador Dali’s melting clock, and multiply the metal on the frame by 100. Gen Z and Millennials are driving this trend away from neutrals and toward shiny finishes, as seen by a 70% increase in “aluminum door design” searches and a 45% increase in searches for “aluminum furniture.”

Cafecore

Bar carts established themselves as stylish kitchen staples in the past years, but according to Pinterest, we’ll focus more on our coffee than cocktails in 2024. Boomers and Gen X are behind this trend with an increase in searches for “coffee bar styling” (1,125%), “kafe aesthetic" (820%), “coffee station decor” (145%), and “cafe chalkboard" (50%). Time to grab a couple bistro chairs and set up a display for your favorite mugs.

Western Gothic

Put on your cowboy boots and paint your nails black—Western Gothic is here to offer a moody twist on the classic Americana aesthetic. In 2024, you'll notice more dark-toned cactus prints, leather, and ripped denim in interior design.

Tropic Like It’s Hot

Pinterest predicts that next year, we'll crave a tropical twist on our favorite foods and in our decor. Stemming from a desire to get away and unwind, Gen Z and Boomers are teaming up to bring this trend alive, with searches for “pineapple mocktails” up 70% this year, "crushed pineapple upside down cake" up 50%, and “Hawaiian sheet pan chicken" up 35%. There was also a 110% increase in searches for “tropical chic decor" and a 35% increase for “coconut aesthetic."
