12 Best and Most Comfortable Extra-Deep Sofas

What's better than curling up on the sofa, reading a good book, or streaming something to your TV or projector? Some might say a killer home workout. Others will say a backcounty bike ride. For us? None of it beats an extra-deep couch. And to be fair, spreading out on an extra-deep sofa might be life's greatest pleasure.

An extra-deep sofa is the only way to get really, truly comfortable. What counts as an extra-deep sofa? Well, it's exactly what it sounds like... it's like any ol' sofa, but it's a bit deeper than normal. While the seat depth for most couches usually ranges between 20 and 25 inches, extra-deep-seat sofas have seat depths of at least 30 inches, which means more space to spread out and snuggle up. Average length legs won't make it over the seat depth, so these sofas sort of invite, or even require, you to curl up instead of sitting stick straight.

Harmony Sofa

Yeah, $2000 is still an investment. But when you think about how much time you actually spend on a couch, why wouldn't you invest? This West Elm harmony sofa is cheaper than any of the more luxury options. But when compared to the even cheaper sofas on this list, it's got nicer fabrics, plusher cushions, and is better looking. It's an incredible sofa.

Oh, and as for being extra deep, you can get it with either a 41" or biiiiig ole 47" seat depth. Absolutely perfect for lounging.

Bergen Adjustable Arm Sofa

Arhaus is one of our favorites for luxury furniture, and the Bergen is its best deep sofa offering. At 30" seat depth, it's right on the cusp of what we'd consider a deep sofa, but the fact that it's so comfortable makes up for it being on the low end of the spectrum.

The look is also what sets this sofa apart. As with anything form Arhaus, it's classy, modern, and more versatile than other offerings. In this parchment hue, this sofa looks equally at home in an airy, beach home or a colder loft setup.

The only issue we found with this sofa is the lack of arm rest. There's just nothing to lay up against. You can raise them to the upright position shown, but it's still not as hefty as we'd like. That's personal preference, but we have to note it.

Faible 100" Performance Velvet Sofa

Another mainstay in our luxury furniture ranking is CB2. The brand takes inspiration from mid-century design and consistently makes some of our favorite furniture around.

Even though modern-looking isn't rare in the world of extra-deep sofas, CB2's Faible just offers a bit more mid-century flair. The velvet fabrics, as well as this velvety chenille, just lend a different air to the simple shape. Instead of crisp and clean, it makes the sofa sexier. Other deep sofas are for curling up and reading a book. This one is for crashing on at a house party.

Mori Performance Fabric Sofa

We shout out a few other easy to clean sofas on this list, but Castlery's performance fabric is phenomenal at staying clean. Spill some drink on it, and all you have to do is immediately dab up the liquid. Then, give it a little scrub, and the stain's gone.

Beyond that, we like the look of this sofa more than other easy-clean types. The white upholstery and oak wood veneer gives it a very zen, cozy look.

The only downside we really had (besides the fact that there is only one upholstery option) is that it's not that deep, seat depth comes in at 27.6". Deep enough for a movie binge, sure. But if you want to sink way back into a couch, there are better options here.

Stealthtech Sectional

If you want something wildly comfortable, make the jump to Lovesac. It's a couch-in-a-box like any of these, but Lovesac is the market's turbo comfort option. This pit sectional makes the perfect movie night lounging space; it's huge, plush, and made for rainy days with movie marathons. That's not only because of the shape and plush build, but because Lovesac's Stealthtech line comes with speakers built into the sofa. Connect the speakers to your TV or projector, and you get a full surround-sound experience. It's truly incredible.

For something that's not exactly designer, the price tag might seem offensive ($17,000 for some leather options!), but trust me its not. I have never laid on a sofa that's more comfortable than this in my entire life.

Movie Night 4-Piece Sectional

I mean c'mon, it's right there in the title. Sundays' Movie Night sectional is a great sofa for binging, lounging, sleeping, whatever.

There's a few things we loved about this sectional. The ottoman being modular gives you a ton of flexibility. The cushions are some of the most plush and really envelope you. They're even great to toss onto the floor and use there, and that's part of the charm of this sofa. While a lot at this price point look and feel stuffy, Sundays makes a really unassuming and homey sofa—it'll feel like you've had it forever.

The only thing we don't love is the upholstery options. They're all subdued and gray. Something a bit more fun would be welcome.

Sink Down Sectional

Similar is Floyd's Sink Down sectional. It looks a lot like the Sundays number, and it gets a lot of the same stuff right. The one area it beats that Sundays couch though is in upholstery.

Of all the couch brands out there, Floyd has some of our favorite swatches, especially when it comes to anything with color. If you want to add a pop of color to your living space without going overboard, this is the way to do it.

Mario Bellini Sofa

For a lot of designer furniture, deep seats is not the most important feature. Thankfully, legend of Italian design Mario Bellini thought about how people live on a sofa, and he mad his famous piece with a lounge-worthy 37" seat depth. It's a sofa that not only looks good, but feels good. That's peak design, real luxury.

Plus, as a bonus, Eternity Modern has an incredible selection of swatches. With a sofa this singular, you really want to pair its color to the rest of the room. The shape is what should stand out.

Kova L-Shape + Ottoman

Go big or go home. This Albany Park sofa features plush, feather-blend seat cushions that provide next-level coziness. The seat depth of this sofa is 30 inches, but if you really want to lounge, we suggest arranging the sections into a mega couch (as pictured). This will give you over 65 inches of deeeep depth.

Dawson Sofa

If you want a stylish yet comfortable couch, this Castlery sofa is the best option. It looks great in any space and is ideal for sitting, laying, or even sleeping on. It's offered in two different sizes (90 inches or 126 inches wide) and can be paired with an ottoman. It is made with foam, fiber, and feather-filled seats, meaning you'll sink right into it.

How to Choose an Extra-Deep Sofa

We did most of the work for you, but we can't do all of it. If you're going off on your own, these are our criteria for extra-deep sofas.

Dimensions - When you add depth to the seat, it can make the couch too large to manage. First and foremost, make sure it fits in your space.

Fabric - We love leather, but it's often used in more traditional shapes. Since deep sofas are a new invention of the binge watching age, we would lean into performance fabrics, linen blends, or (if you're adventurous) velvet.

Materials - Yes, this is the upholstery, but more than that we inspect the materials used to build the sofas. This one has to be done in person, but it's a simple gut check on how long this thing is going to last.
