During the holidays, it's important to ensure your home is in its best condition since you'll be having family and guests over the majority of the season (especially if you're hosting). Although it may be too late for a full home renovation project, you can still make small updates to spruce up your space, so it looks new and put-together for all season long.

We asked pros to share the best home makeover projects you can easily finish in a weekend. From updating your lighting to swapping out some shower curtains, here are five very doable projects perfect for any skill level.

Light Up the Room

Swapping outdated light bulbs for LED bulbs will not only give you a better light source but will also save you energy. Consider how you use a specific room and which type of illumination before purchasing the replacements.

A cool white bulb gives off more light than its warm white counterpart. That makes a cool white a great choice for places such as the kitchen and bathroom, where you want to be able to see very well. A warm white bulb is more low-key and is perfectly suited for bedrooms and living rooms.

Add a table lamp and create an inviting area for conversation. Andra DelMonico, a contributor at Trendey, recommends adding a floor lamp since they can elevate a room's ambiance when placed thoughtfully.

Get Crafty

For people who love to get creative, think about putting together your own light fixture. Not only will you add function to a dining room or kitchen, but you will also have something that is one of a kind. Danielle Matthews, a home improvement expert and co-owner of Reborn Renovations, has the perfect project that you can put together in a weekend.

Turn glass bottles of all shapes and sizes into a showpiece with just a few tools. Matthews says to be sure you thoroughly clean all of the bottles and then carefully trim the bottoms away. Place either LED string lights or even battery-operated fairy lights inside each bottle and then hang each one from a wire frame or a wooden board that can hang from the ceiling.

“Install this creative chandelier in your dining or living space to enjoy a captivating dance of light and shadow,” Matthews says. You will be adding a whimsical atmosphere that will have all your visitors talking.

Refresh a Bathroom

Chances are if you have been in your home for a few years, your guest bath probably hasn’t gotten a lot of attention. Even small changes to your bathroom can create a huge impact.

Add a new paint color to the walls or use peel-and-stick wallpaper to transform the look. Then, hang a new shower curtain and add high-quality towels and washcloths, to bring your bathroom to a luxury level that will make guests feel extra special.

While making cosmetic changes, also check to be sure no faucets or shower heads have a leak and that toilets are working as they should. Making sure your plumbing is in full working order will make holiday celebrations much more pleasant for all.

Pull Up to A Fire Pit

No matter what the winter weather is like where you are, create cozy memories by a warm fire.

James Morgan, a home improvement expert and founder of ShedHelp, has helped many families create the backyard of their dreams and has tips on building your own fire pit in no time.

Morgan says you can use a fancy, high-end unit or a basic one that costs around $40. If you go with one on the lower end of the price range, he cautions that you place some bricks or decorative pavers underneath so you don’t damage your grass.

Once you have your fire pit set up according to the manufacturer's directions, you will be ready to sip hot cocoa and enjoy other holiday treats surrounded by the warm glow of friends and family in comfort and style.

Make a Good First Impression

Give your front door a thorough cleaning and then add a new coat of stain or paint. It will provide a fresh backdrop to perfectly frame a holiday wreath or other favorite decorative item. DelMonico suggests adding some extra lighting by placing solar lights along the path to your door to improve safety and to spruce up your entry.

Add a few potted evergreens that do well in your area and match the celebratory aesthetic that suits your style. Then, consider placing a festive decorative doormat at the threshold, and your property will be primed to welcome people home for the holidays.
