For $5.3M, Cary mansion for sale with views of MacGregor Downs’ 18th hole

Tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac in Cary’s MacGregor Downs, a “rustic” mansion is now up for sale with sprawling views of the golf course’s famous 18th hole.

The 7,455-square-foot house at 124 Dunedin Court sits on just under an acre of land on the shores of Lake MacGregor, a short drive from downtown Cary.

From the outside, it looks grand but traditional with stone-accent walls and a red-tiled roof. Inside, a foyer with vaulted-wood ceilings ushers you into the living room. Double-folding-glass doors open to the outside patio, firepit, and the club’s course of rolling green hills — “the essence of lakeside luxury,” its agent Linda Trevor teases in the listing.

The main floor offers an owner’s suite with a “spa-like” bath, three additional bedrooms, two baths, and a laundry room. For culinary enthusiasts, the listing adds, a gourmet kitchen features “top-of-the-line” Viking, Dacor and Miele appliances, Italian high-gloss cabinets, and “a generously sized walk-in pantry.”

Upstairs, a loft area provides additional space, and two bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bath; below, a temperature-controlled wine room is kept in the basement.

Would-be buyers can also expect access to the community’s private country club. Amenities include pool, tennis courts and a playground. Golf memberships are also available.

The luxury doesn’t come cheap. The price tag: $5.3 million. For those who can afford it,“[it’s the] perfect blend of rustic elegance, timeless charm and family-friendly fun,” said Trevor, a Compass Realtor based in Raleigh.

A historic golf course

MacGregor Downs, established in 1967, is one of the Triangle’s most exclusive neighborhoods. It’s about a 25-minute drive east to downtown Raleigh.

In 1967, real estate developer Greg Poole built the community on a 200-acre tract of land in what was then a remote area of Wake County. Architect Willard C. Byrd designed the 18-hole golf course.

During the 1970s, MacGregor Downs hosted the Liggett & Myers PGA Tour Match Play Championships. The club currently hosts the Stitch Intercollegiate each year.

Some of the greatest names in golf have walked its fairways alongside Lake MacGregor, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino, First Call Golf reported.
