Netflix just announced it lost nearly 1 million subscribers in its Q2 report to shareholders. This raises the question for any savvy shopper – is 4k Netflix worth it? In this video, we take a look at Netflix’s offerings, compare its service to competitors, and decide whether the average consumer should pay $20 per month to get the Netflix content library in premium 4k.

Holy high prices, Batman!

Long gone are the days of a single tier price plan for Netflix. We at Slickdeals remember a simpler time when you could access HD video on the platform for only $9.99/month. Sadly, HD video is no longer available on Netflix’s most affordable plan.

As of July 2022, Netflix’s price tiers are as follows:

Basic – $9.99/month for 480p streaming on 1 device

Standard – $15.49/month for 1080p streaming on 2 devices

Premium – $19.99/month for 4k streaming on 4 devices

That means any individual who wants to watch Ozark’s final season in 4k is going to have to shell out $20 minimum. And if you’re on a tight budget, forget about it! The most affordable plan only awards you 480p resolution, and at $10 per month, that seems like a joke. It may come at no surprise that a net 970,000 accounts have unsubscribed to the service.

However, we’re not here to discuss the merits of Netflix’s most affordable plan. We want to talk about Netflix’s most expensive plan. It will cost you $20 per month to get that crystal clear 4k streaming video resolution. That price seems pretty steep. Is it worth it?
