This $45 Bucket Bag Looks So Similar to Cult Gaia's Version That's 11x the Price, We Did a Double Take

If you’re tuned in to the world of designer bags — or the fashion side of TikTok — you know there’s a new "It" bag every season. The brand Cult Gaia frequently has its handbags reach "It" bag status, and most recently its Simona Shoulder Bag has been all the rage. It's super chic and versatile, but its high price tag, however, isn’t necessarily in everyone’s budget. So we did some digging to find a similar style that’s a bit more affordable (but just as elegant). Introducing the French Connection Olympia Bucket Shoulder Bag.
Available on ShopHQ for under $45, the bag — just like the Cult Gaia style — comes in two solid colors with minimal branding. While the black version is a classic, wear-anytime piece, the cream is a bright, seasonal shade that will perfectly complement any spring or summer look.

There are a few key differences in the handbags, though. For starters, unlike the pricer option, the French Connection bag has a convenient magnetic snap to keep your belongings safely stowed away in its compartments. Inside, you’ll also find two slip-in pockets and one zipper pocket (the Simona is lined, but the product description doesn’t note any pockets).
The more affordable style is also slightly roomier, measuring in at 10.2 inches by 11.8 inches, while the Cult Gaia style is 9.4 inches by 9.8 inches. Material is another consideration. Some shoppers may like that the Olympia Bucket Shoulder Bag is made of 100% artificial leather (PU) and accessorized with matte silver hardware; others may prefer the Simona Shoulder Bag’s smooth leather with gold accents and a squiggle buckle on one side (which is pretty cute, admittedly).
And while the two color options for the French Connection piece are black and cream, Cult Gaia's is available in black and a sunny yellow, if you're after that pop of color.

Both bucket bags are ideal for on-the-go warm-weather activities — they have plenty of space for your phone, wallet, sunscreen, e-reader, and a few other necessities. If you’re not quite sold on spending several hundred dollars on a trendy bag, though, go for the French Connection Olympia Bucket Shoulder Bag that's less than one-tenth of the price. Now that's a pretty big difference.
