44th Annual Community School Strawberry Festival returning to Elmwood Park

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—The 44th annual Community School Strawberry Festival is coming back to Roanoke, bringing family fun in a celebration of the beloved fruit on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4 in Elmwood Park.

For over 40 years, the Community School has hosted this event during the first weekend of May, rain or shine. It originally served as a fundraiser for the school, however, it has transformed into so much more, becoming a beloved yearly event that draws over 20,000 attendees from the Virginia Blue Ridge and beyond.

Festival goers can look forward to traditional festival fun as well as homemade recipes revolving around strawberries, ranging from strawberry shortcakes to chocolate-dipped strawberries, and berries and cream.

On both days, attendees can purchase hand-made crafts from local vendors, and visit booths hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations. Live music entertainment, dance performances, and stilt walkers will be all around Elmwood Park, making it an event where everyone can find something fun to do.
