  • Michelle Williams hit the red carpet this week for the 2022 Gotham Awards with her BFF Busy Philipps.

  • Michelle, 42, donned a sparkly, sequined minidress for the event, which put her sculpted legs on full display.

  • The actress is so into yoga that she even started her own group, the Yoga for Single Moms Project, which provides childcare while mom gets her Om on.

Actress Michelle Williams had a big night at the 32nd Gotham Awards in New York City this week. The Dawson's Creek star, 42, received a Performer Tribute Award spanning her acting career, and she was looking so strong and confident in a sparkly, sequin Valentino minidress that showed off her super toned legs. Michelle accessorized the fabulous dress with a pair of Terry de Havilland gold open-toed platform heels, and brown drop statement earrings from Lisa Eisner Jewelry, per WWD.

If you're wondering how Michelle gets so strong, you're not alone. Luckily, WH is here to help. For one, Michelle's legs got the ultimate workout when she starred as Tony Award-winning dancer Gwen Verdon in "Fosee/Verdon," which required constant dance practice. (Her co-star Sam Rockwell played legendary choreographer Bob Fosse.)

“There really wasn’t time to work out in any way, shape or form — luckily we were dancing so that kept us in shape and we ate very responsibly,” she told PEOPLE.

She shared more about the rigorous training with W Mag. "We had classes for maybe three weeks before we started shooting. And then because all of the episodes weren’t written in advance, they would write an episode and in the episode there would be a dance but we hadn’t learned it ahead of time," Michelle said. "So after we wrapped shooting, we would go to the dance studio. On the weekends, we would go to the dance studio. On your lunch break, you would go to the dance studio. So, we trained beforehand but then the training, it didn’t stop until we stopped shooting."

Phew! Sounds like a LOT of work, and certainly a lot of cardio.

Williams has also previously been a fan of LEKFit workouts, a dance-inspired fitness method that utilizes mini trampolines for low-impact, high-intensity cardio, ballet and yoga-inspired moves for sculpting, plus some interval training and circuit work. The workout's founder, Lauren Kleban, shared with PEOPLE that Williams and her BFF Busy Philipps attended classes together in 2017.

“It is designed to create long and lean muscles by using intervals of cardio with muscle sculpting techniques that are created to strengthen and tone,” Kleban said. “The LEKfit method features workouts that are musically driven, super fun, challenging and effective.”

Williams is also a fan of yoga, which she credited for helping her heal after the death of her partner, Heath Ledger, in 2008. She has explained in the past how it helped her when she was adjusting to being a single mom to her daughter, Matilda. (She's now a mom of 3.)

She also started a pilot program, called the Yoga for Single Moms Project in Boston, to help other single moms get their yoga fix in. "The idea behind the program is that if you can clear the time, we do the rest," Williams said per Yoga Basics. "It provides childcare while the mom is in the yoga class and it’s all free."

"Yoga gave me relief like nothing else; it made me a better person and a better mother," she said. "And then I started to think about how expensive it is to get a babysitter to take a yoga class, which makes it out of reach for so many women.”

As for her diet, Williams has stayed pretty quiet on that front, but it's clear she takes her roles really seriously. Example A: For "Fossee/Verdon," she had to eat a very strict diet five days a week, with a cheat night on the weekends.

“Sam and I would look forward to Friday night all week long,” Williams shared with PEOPLE. “It wasn’t so much what we would eat on Friday night, it was what we would drink on Friday night.”

Rockwell added, "I would drink whiskey and she would probably have a rosé, and we would hopefully have something that was off our diet like cheese or chocolate or a hamburger, something like that. It was a cheat weekend."

Cheers to that, Michelle!
