Rules You Didn't Know "America's Got Talent" Contestants Have to Follow

You first have to go to open calls.

You have to pass some eligibility requirements.

There's no age limit to audition.

If you're under 18, you have to bring a parent.

You have to line up for an audition time.

You have to follow a dress code.

Leave the fire (and sharp objects) at home.

You can't bring animals on a whim either.

Singers can't use instrumental recordings in auditions.

Your friends and family have to wait outside.

You have a short window to impress at your audition.

Don't expect to meet the judges right away.

You may not get an answer for months.

You have to be camera ready for the judge's audition.

The judges audition requires a background check.

You have to sign a confidentiality agreement, too.

Your living expenses are covered while filming.

You aren't paid to be on the show.

You have to consent to being filmed 24/7.

You have to be okay with hidden cameras.

You can't tell anyone you're going on the show.

A golden buzzer automatically gets you to the first round.

You shouldn't expect to get a golden buzzer though ...

You can't pick out your own costumes.

Singers don't choose the songs they perform.

Your storyline is controlled by producers.

You have to give A LOT of interviews.

Personal photos are off limits.

You should be careful about who you become friends with.

You can be disqualified at any time.

You cannot challenge eliminations.

Producers can also make voting decisions.

You can't appear on another reality show for a year after filming.

In fact, you're on a talent hold. Period.

You may be more likely to win based on your talent.

You only get a prize if you come in first place.

The winners don't get all of their prize money at once.

Yes, taxes still apply.

You're on your own after your first headlining gig.
