Little Hally Kelly was born in England with a full head of hair, and instead of losing and regrowing those tresses — which is normal for many infants — Kelly’s hair just kept on growing. Now 4 years old, the girl has a thick blonde mane that reaches her knees — and stops complete strangers in their tracks, according to The Mirror.

Fittingly, Kelly has been nicknamed after the fairytale princess with hair long enough to climb — or rather she gave herself the nickname, her mother Kathryn explained to the publication. “I tried to cut her hair once, but she saw it on the floor and just cried and cried. She loves her hair and calls herself Rapunzel,” her mother, Kathryn, told the publication.

Hally’s hair measures 22 inches long, which is astonishing considering her young age, as hair grows at an average rate of half an inch per month. Her mom tells The Mirror she has searched online for children her daughter’s age with hair as long, but hasn’t found any (we found one). Curiously, Kathryn “works in the crimping industry,” and sells hair extensions professionally. But she swears her daughter’s incredibly tresses are the real deal. She expects Hally’s hair to reach the ground by the time she’s 5, according to the publication.

“It’s just extraordinary really, ever since she was born her hair has grown at a very rapid rate,” the mom told the publication, noting that her hair is two inches longer than the longest extension she sells. “Lots of people stop us in the street when we’re out,” she said.

Other girls and women have gone on record as real-life Rapunzels, but most are older than 4. A woman in Russia, Dashik Gubanova Freckle, has been growing her hair since 2003 with the intention of having it reach her toes (it’s almost there!). And a young woman named Trisha Reibelt has an Instagram account in which she shows off her long, lush hair — and the many colors she likes to dye it, from hot pink to Kelly green to rainbow (now those are some strong strands!).

Plus, there’s an entire family of five that have been growing their respective manes diligently — mom’s hair reaches a whopping 74 inches!

But as a preschooler, Kelly is in a league of her own — for her, just going to school is a game of show and tell. But like most things that seem glamorous on the surface, having long, lush locks is not without its drawbacks — especially for a child. As mom Kathryn says, “Most of the time I tie it up, as she gets so much stuck in it.”

A small price to pay for such a genetic blessing, we’d say. And according to Hally’s mom, she knows “eventually we’ll have to cut it again, but for now she’s so happy.”
