4 Times Harry Styles Proved He's the Perfect Fit to Play Elvis

Harry Styles is in the running to play Elvis Presley in the upcoming biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann, and social media is split down the middle. Some people have tweeted that they think Harry would be a perfect fit to play Elvis (Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are also being considered for the role), but there’s also been a lot of dissent. Some fans think Harry should hold out for a Mick Jagger biopic (they do have striking similarities and mannerisms), to which we respond: Baz Luhrmann probably won’t be directing the Rolling Stones biopic.

Hear us out: We think Harry would be an excellent Elvis. One, they’re both entertainers with a knack for lavish performances; two, Harry and Elvis's are both known for the easy confidence required to pull off bold fashion choices; three, we know that Harry can act from his knockout performance in Dunkirk. The range of emotions Harry and Elvis have run through while playing music and looking amazing would be hard for anyone else to replicate.

Baz Luhrmann is known for his stylized depictions of well-known stories. He’s directed Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet, and The Great Gatsby, among others. Each one of his films brings to life magical worlds through extravagant sets and costume design, often done by his Oscar-nominated collaborator Catherine Martin (the pair are also married #dreamteam). Catherine is listed as a producer of the Elvis film, but we hope she’s also doing the costume design. Baz’s films are heavy on aesthetics, and Harry’s Gucci-loving style would be a perfect fit for the director. An actor has to have a certain amount of natural confidence to pull off an Elvis jumpsuit, something that Harry has definitely embraced.

According to Deadline, Baz will announce the lead in the upcoming weeks. Until then, we’re on pins and needles, and comparing outfit pics of Harry and Elvis. May the best Elvis win.
