4 Resorts Where You Can Still Ski Into June, But Not For Long

If you haven't racked your skis yet for the 2021-'22 season, helmets off to ya. That's impressive. Now gear up, because you've got one more big weekend to rack vert before the U.S. is down to one ski area still spinning its lift.

The three of the four holdouts are giving up the ghost this weekend after a great ski season marked by spring bounty around most of the country. Here's where you can still ski right now--but not for much longer.

Killington, Vt.
Closing Day: June 5, 2022
The Beast of the East is going for its latest closing day in 25 years as it attempts to eke out one more weekend. The Superstar Express will serve top-to-bottom hop laps (literally) for all comers who don't mind a little spring sludge mixed in with their serving of corn. It's been quite the season at Killington, which opened on Oct. 17 thanks to tireless snowmaking efforts that saw snow depth at 30 feet at the height of the season. An effort worth appreciating.
Arapahoe Basin, Colo.
Closing Day: June 5, 2022
Arapahoe Basin claims the longest season in Colorado as it closes down shop this weekend, despite a spring dump in the forecast. The resort opened on Oct. 17, the second mountain to run its lifts in Colorado following Wolf Creek's Oct. 16 opening. While it was a good snow year, it wasn't exceptional (although the spring season was pretty bountiful), so making it to June is to the credit of the mountain ops crew. In total, 262 inches fell on the Summit County ski area, and the base is currently measuring 48 inches. The last day for the Lenawee triple was May 30, leaving the base area's Black Mountain Express the last lift standing on closing weekend.

Closing Day: June 5, 2022
California's last resort also hangs on for one more weekend, operating daily through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are three lifts running--Broadway, Face Lift, and Chair 23--and no beginner terrain available, but there is one small terrain park, Unbound, still open. Daily temps at Mammoth are hitting the low- to mid-50s, so expect typical spring freeze-thaw conditions. Time it right, and the June corn will be creamy and cooked to perfection.
Timberline, Ore.
Closing Day: early Sept. 2022 (conditions permitting)
Timberline officially switched to summer operations at the end of May, so the Palmer Express will operate through the beginning of September, serving 1,400 high-alpine acres from its terminus at 8,540 feet. After annual lift maintenance on the Palmer chair is complete, the lift will open on June 3. Skiers load the Magic Mile lift and walk across to Palmer for bowl skiing with views of 11,245-foot Mt.
