Earlier this week at Victoria Beckham's highly anticipated AW19 show, VB's daughter Harper debuted a sharp new haircut, beyond her seven years.  A power bob of Anna Wintour proportions, it surprisingly caught our attention for its face-flattering features, making it a smart choice for women over 40.

Sitting on the FROW of her mum's show, the seven  year old and Vogue's Editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, 69, sat side by side with identical haircuts, proving just how age fluid the blunt bob is. Not to mention, cutting your daughter's hair into the same complimentary style as Wintour is an indirect nod of support for the queen of fashion, who's been an avid champion of Beckham's fashion line since it's launch.

Harper's bob, aka the 'HOB', was cut by renowned hairstylist, Luke Hersheson who is Victoria's go-to hairstylist and is often snapped at home and makes regular Instagram appearances with Victoria to keep her iconic hairstyle in order.

VB has been the hot topic of beauty conversations of late as she recently announced that she VB beauty will be launching in September, later this year as will her own beauty You-tube channel. She also revealed in a recent interview with the Telegraph that she will be dabbling her hand in the world of wellness too.

But what is it that makes Harper's cut so flattering? Like Anna Wintour's, Harper's style incorporates three key elements - a blunt base line,  jaw length and long bangs. "A bob is a classic hair style that can be adapted to work for any age or face shape," says hairstylist Adam Reed. For a more mature woman I would recommend having a softer edge and finish to keep you looking fresh and young," advises Reed.

Here's four reasons why Harper's bob is surprisingly flattering for mature women.

1. The jaw-sculpting length

In order to keep your bob sophisticated and stylish it's all about the length. Cut your bob to hang just below or on your jaw line as this will lift your face shape and sculpt in areas that may appear jowly.

2. The just-long enough fringe

Although fringes aren't for everyone, they look great with a bob. Adding a youthful fringe is a really great  smart-ageing trick as it can dramatically change your hairstyle without having to commit to a drastic colour switch. What makes Harper's grown-up rather than looking super young, is the length. It falls just below her brow bone which is reminiscent of a cool-girl, Parisian style similar to Claudia Winkleman.

3. The ageless bronde colour

A softer highlighted bob is a great style choice for women over 40," advises Reed. "Keep a soft blend, go in with a root strip so you’ve got more depth and soften up the ends with a little highlight to look sun kissed," says Adam. Bronde is universally flattering as it will counter balance any unwanted sallowness that occurs during the ageing process.

4. The volume lifting texture

Finally, the trick to a stylish short cut is your texture. Volumisers and hair texturising sprays should be your hair's best friend. A choppy texture will enhance any cut and keep the weight hanging in all the right areas.
