4 Latine Designers Leading The Rise in Lace Nostalgia

From our abuelita's casa to the streets, lace is the sultry, romantic and nostalgic textile we can't get enough of. Dressing softer and embracing your delicate side is in and that is thanks to the hyper-femininity era we are in as fashion accessories like bows, rosettes and sheer fabrics led the runways of Spring/Summer 2024 Fashion Week season.

As a Peruvian girl who grew up in the States, however, the intricate textile reminds me of both my abuelitas' casas in Peru – their lace curtains, tablecloths and doilies that dawned their Catholic altars. The intricate textile carries so much history and nostalgia. Ceremonially, lace has significance in various countries and cultures. In Christianity, lace was used by women to cover their hair. Specifically in South America and Latin countries, "mantillas", which comes from the Spanish word "manta," meaning "capes," are lace garments traditionally worn during mass.

Now, Latine designers are celebrating the cultural heritage of lace through next-gen brands, accessories and swimwear. To continue that celebration, we've rounded up our favorite Latine-founed brands leading the rise in lace below.
