Runway shows may be a good place to scope out trends a few months ahead, but as for what's trendy right this very second? For that we prefer to scan the sidewalks, especially during New York Fashion Week. This year, there were four accessory trends in particular that appeared to pop up around every corner. Here are the boots, bags and sunglasses styles we plan to shop ASAP.
This classic boot is less intimidating than over-the-knee and thigh-high styles, but feels more chic and grown-up than your average ankle bootie. Our favorite way to style them? With a flowy midi dress that just skims the top of the boot or with our favorite pair of skinny jeans.
Hallelujah! While we're not quite back to the oversize sunnies preferred by '70s style icons and Anna Wintour, we're at least moving away from the tiny Matrix frames that have been dominating the scene of late. Midsize sunnies in simple colors (think solid black or deep brown) were much more common this week than wildly over-the-top or micro-mini variations.
UNADORNED Leather Bags
Beaded handbags, feather-adorned totes and chunky chain handles will always hold a special place in our heart (and our closet). But it looks as though unadorned accessories are making a comeback for fall and winter. Even better? They're significantly bigger than the tiny bags Jacquemus helped make oh-so-popular. Three cheers for actually being able to fit your phone, wallet and keys all the same bag with room to spare.
Those Bottega Veneta Heels
Bottega Veneta's creative director Daniel Lee refreshed the brand's archive square-toe heels with black mesh and a gold chain detail. And then hoards of fashionistas went and snapped them up and the streets of New York were suddenly filled with mesh-covered feet and square-toe strappy sandals. We're not entirely sure how we feel about these yet, but you can bet we haven't seen the last of them.
