Nicole Kidman has done her fair share of hair experiments through the years–most recently as a redhead with voluminous spirals on her hit HBO show The Undoing. Perhaps, with all her years of blonde blowouts, you didn't realize that her hair on the show is similar to what her natural hair was once like.

In fact, she often talks about wishing she hadn't messed with her curl pattern. "I really wanted to have that suntanned skin and long blonde hair," she told her native Australia's WHO Magazine. "I wanted to conform and be the Aussie beach girl. And I was never going to be that." Thankfully, she's been able to bring back her once-lost curls, and has been showing them off more than ever on Instagram:

She is a big fan of using hair oils pre-red carpet.

Nicole told Vogue that ahead of a big red carpet day like the Emmys, she applies the Philip B Rejuvenating Oil in her hair overnight. Celebrity hair stylist Philip Berkovitz, who has worked with Nicole, told W the same: "Nicole Kidman credits my Rejuvenating Oil as a hair product she 'can't live without' for red carpet events and my hot oil treatment is how she likes to 'chill out' after long days on Big Little Lies." The hair stylist added, "The defining moment of my career was when I developed these unique hair care treatments that really delivered – using pure botanicals in precise blends to restore hair’s healthy, youthful feel."

She wears her natural curls out when she's not working.

"I wish I had my curls back," she told InStyle. The actress used to regularly straighten her strands. "I tortured them to death. I always say, 'Don't ruin the ringlets!'" She has learned her lesson, as she shared with People: "I have naturally curly hair that's constantly being styled when I'm working. So when I'm not working, I love saturating it in this nourishing oil and leaving it alone." One of her go-tos is the In Fiore Calendula Solution.

She likes air-drying.

"I have naturally curly hair, and if I’m on holiday I’ll air-dry it," she told Harper's BAZAAR. "For curls without frizz, I use Kérastase Discipline Oléo-Curl and Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream."

She takes a hair supplement.

"I really believe in taking vitamins and supporting my skin with inside health,” Kidman once told Allure. She's a spokesperson for Swisse Wellness and claims, "My nails are probably the worst part of me—they’re always breaking—so I use this amazing skin, hair, and nails vitamin from Swisse Wellness, and it’s really changed them." While she credits them for her nails, the supplements also contain biotin, which a few studies have shown to support hair growth–but experts say evidence isn't super conclusive.

She gets her hair styled with drugstore products.

Celebrity hairstylist Kylee Heath, who works with Nicole, used all Tresemmé products for her sleek 2020 Golden Globes look. "I am all about prepping the hair," Heath told Allure. "Since we were going for a sleek look, it was important to prep it with products that would help make it last through the night." That lineup included a Pro Pure Volume Invisible Styler and Keratin Smooth Heat Protectant Spray.

"I blew the hair out, starting in the front," Heath explained. "I worked a little volume into the roots with a round brush, and once the hair was dry I smoothed it out section by section with a straightener." For a bit of shine, Heath finished with the Dry Oil Spray–all of these products ring in at under $7.
