33rd annual Kid’s Fishing Derby to be held at Little Beaver State Park

BEAVER, WV (WVNS) — Get your rods and reels ready for the 33rd annual Kid’s Fishing Derby for children 14 and under at Little Beaver State Park.

Mountain Music Festival returns in 2024

The fishing derby will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on June 8, 2024. Kids will need to bring basic fishing gear, and a limited amount of bait will be available at the event.

Kids will need to be registered to be eligible to reel in some prizes, and registration will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted, and kids will be able to fish at any time once they are registered.

Mark Scott, the Assistant Chief with Fish Management for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources shared why this event is beneficial to the community, and why everyone loves to participate.

“It’s been a great event over the years. We’ve tried to introduce kids to fishing and this is held on ‘Free Fishing Days,’ which would be June 8th and 9th and what that means is anyone can fish anywhere in public waters in West Virginia with no license on those days,” said Scott.

“We want the kids to come out and have fun, fish a little bit. If they want to ride on the hayride around the lake, that’s great, just enjoy themselves, make it a fun outing for everybody,” added Scott.

Starting at 12:00 p.m., prizes will be given out as long as supplies are available. Hayrides will also be at the event.
