The £33 face oil that improved my skin - and can help yours, too

Face oils are no longer a niche product but an essential part of your skincare routine – especially in the heat -

It may not seem like the right time to be talking oils, especially as we’ve had a heatwave and all you may have wanted to reach for was a light moisturiser, but in my opinion there’s no better time to start using one. If your skin feels parched from the heat and clogged from the humidity, a hard-working oil can be the answer.

One of my favourites is the No 1 Nourishing Face Serum by Vanderohe. It is, hands down, one of the best blends I’ve used and guess what? It’s £33. This still isn’t cheap, but there are definitely more expensive ones out there – and boy, do you get a lot of bang for your buck. You should notice your skin looking clearer, feeling softer and generally healthier over the course of a few weeks (and each bottle will last you a couple of months). The oil has a very dry feel, so those with drier complexions can use this in the morning and evening, otherwise I’d stick to just the evenings. And the last thing to note, before I get to the point of literally shouting out, ‘Buy this now!’ is the deeply soothing aroma from the blend of rose, chamomile, lavender and neroli. Divine.

Another excellent oil for the summer is the Jane Scrivner Skin Elixir. The main ingredient is jojoba oil, which is excellent for oilier complexions. Sandalwood, frankincense and sweet orange oils make up the rest of the blend, which is both nourishing and extremely light to use.

And if you are willing to splash the cash, let me point you to the direction of Mimi Luzon’s £173 24K Pure Gold Glow Brilliant Super Oil. Just two drops of this under your moisturiser in the morning will have an instantly face-brightening, skin-softening effect, thanks to the pure 24-carat gold particles suspended in lightweight grapeseed oil. I’ve been using it on any days my skin looks particlarly lacklustre, and it makes all the difference. Here are a few more of my favourites.
