31 Movie Trailers That Straight-Up Lied To Us About The Movie

For most people, the decision of whether or not they're going to watch a film comes from the trailer. The trailer, and all promotional clips, serve to advertise the film. But sometimes...that advertising isn't very accurate.

Graphic with many movie characters

For example, the tone of Suicide Squad was WAY different than the famous "Bohemian Rhapsody" trailer.

Sometimes, trailers and teasers even include scenes that literally are not in the final movie, or are different in the movie. This can leave viewers feeling confused and misled, like the movie isn't delivering on their promises.

Here are 33 trailer moments that never showed up in the film, or were totally different when we saw them:

1.In NOPE, we hear a bit about Em trying to make it in Hollywood, but we never actually see any of it in the film...despite multiple shots and locations of it in the trailer.

2.We also see her crying while filming something, presumably not the (redacted for spoilers), which are all captured above them?

3.This iconic Jennifer's Body line might seem familiar to you, but it was never actually in the movie!

"No, I'm killing boys."

4.We see a bit of this funny (but sort of queer-baity) scene from the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer in the film, but not all of it.

We get Quill's first line, but not Thor staring at Quill, Quill trying to lean his head away, or Quill saying "not me," and Thor pretending he wasn't looking at Quill.

5.The awesome Kylo Ren lightsaber reveal had fans hyped in the trailer for The Force Awakens — but it never actually happened in the film.

6.This lil' exchange between Harry and Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II never happened...thank goodness.

"Because I have something worth living for."

I always thought this line was kind of cheesy and random, so I was sort of glad it wasn't in the film. Though the "we'll finish this as we started: together!" that actually did end up in the film was much worse.

7.Similarly misrepresented was the resurrection stone scene. In the trailer, Harry asks if his family, Lupin, and Sirius will stay with him.

"Until the End"
Warner Bros.

His mother replies "always" in both the trailer and the film (below).

"Always"

But in the trailer, it's Sirius who says "until the end" (which actually occurs a few lines before "always") — not Harry's dad, like it is in the film.

8.In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt never reassured police that everything was alright (just before a giant creature approached); that only happens in the trailer.

"There's absolutely nothing to worry about."

9.A whole lot of Jared-Leto-as-Joker stuff was cut from Suicide Squad, despite his strong presence in the trailer. One of the scenes that was cut? This line.

"I can't wait to show you my toys."
Warner Bros. Pictures

10.Another was June's/Enchantress' line below. Her character was also a large victim of the cutting room floor, as evidenced by shots of her in the trailer that weren't in the film.

"Let's do something fun"

A bunch of shots of Harley were also in the trailers but not in the film, but unlike Leto and Delevingne, Robbie still got plenty of screen time.

11.In the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Wong explicitly tells Strange not to cast the spell to help Peter. Except in the movie...he never says this. He just tells Strange to leave him out of it.

"Fine. I won't."

12.Dr. Strange does meet his creepy multiversal self in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but he never says this line, which was featured prominently in all trailers for the film.

13.Natasha never shoots Tony's gun in Iron Man 2.

14.Scott never asks if Hank can change his superhero name in Ant-Man, despite the funny scene finishing off the trailer.

15.Chris is never attacked by a skeletal version of the moose in Get Out...despite it being in the trailer.

16.Many scenes from the Morbius trailer weren't in the film. This includes Stroud telling Morbius he's been missing for two months. ... Not only does the line not occur in the film, but Michael does not go missing for two months, nor is he found on the ship.

"Then you were found on a container ship that washed up off Long Island."
Sony Pictures Releasing

17.Also, this line, which was in basically every trailer, wasn't in the movie in full. The movie never mentions Venom.

"I'm just kidding, it's Dr. Michael Morbius at your service."

18.The line "We literally can change the world" from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer is not in the film.

19.Nor is Norman's line to Peter. Norman dies at the start, and he never speaks to Peter in the film.

20.None of Bruce's narration in a trailer for Batman Begins was actually in the film. In fact, it was written specifically for the trailer.

"Me."

21.An early trailer for Frozen featured Anna saying, "That's no blizzard; that's my sister!" while Kristoff hugs Olaf. Nothing like this happens in the film; in fact, the only similar animation comes as Anna is dying and trying to make it to Elsa, separated from Sven and Kristoff.

"That's my sister!"

22.Animated movie moments in the trailer but not the film are especially odd, considering how much work it takes to animate even a short scene. Like this scene from the Bolt trailer — Mittens never asked Bolt if he was in the Navy in the film.

23.And early trailers for Atlantis: The Lost Empire depicted Viking boats...an entire storyline that never ended up in the film at all.

24.A lot of times, funny lines are featured in trailers, then cut in the film. In Superbad, the below scene is at the start of the film, but the line "It's a nice-looking dick" is cut, despite featuring in the trailer.

"It's a nice-looking dick."

25.This joke from Deadpool 2 also didn't make it into the film; instead, he just says "Ow" after Cable shoots at him a bunch of times. Which was a lot less funny.

"Your bullets, they're really fast!"

26.Similarly, in the trailer for Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Jim Carrey sneezes and says, "I am fighting something" right after it's explained that white people brought disease to the natives. He never says this in the film.

27.A number of scenes in the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer were not in the film, including their first introduction as the Guardians, the warning "obscene gesture imminent" when Star-Lord gives the finger, and a scene of Gamora partially nude.

28.A ton of scenes from the Rogue One trailers were also cut. The below moments are not even all the moments that were cut from the teaser trailer alone! You can check out more here.

The middle frame actually suggests there may have been a version where Jyn and Cassian survived.
