300 Skiing Santas Take Over Maine Resort For Charity

While the West Coast is vying for snow, the East Coast is making a show of what they can do on it!

In this case, dress up as Old Saint Nick(s) and ski down the hill in style (and for a good cause).

On December 10th, The 23rd Annual "Santa Sunday" celebration kicked off the season of giving at Sunday River Resort.

The weather was no bluebird day, and visibility was down, but officials at Sunday River wrote, "don’t worry, Santa’s sleigh is equipped with fog lights."

The event included 300 skiers and snowboarders dressed as Santas, skiing down Broadway in the South Ridge base area, and helping to raise $8,000 in support of The River Fund Maine.

Each Santa, having pre-registered for the event, contributed a $27 donation and sported the classic attire: a red Santa hat with a white pompom, a matching Santa jacket and pants, and of course, a fluffy Santa beard.

"While this event brings holiday cheer throughout the resort, its deeper significance lies in supporting the children within our community. Each year, the kindness of Santa Sunday participants contributes to creating impactful educational opportunities for our local students,” said Sunday River Resort President Dana Bullen.

All proceeds from Santa Sunday are donated to the River Fund Maine, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to creating a bright economic future for the community by investing in the education of local area youth and harnessing the region's recreational assets.

Since its creation in 2018, the River Fund Maine has awarded two college scholarships of $20,000 per year for up to four years.

Good deeds don't go unnoticed, clearly. Sunday River has a 24 inch base, and 35 trails are open already.

Now, we just need Santa to deliver some snow to us less-do-gooding West Coasters!
