If you’ve ever seen the hit 1980s TV show “Miami Vice,” you might recognize this elegant 1920s home that’s now for sale for just under $30 million.

The home on North Moorings Road in Miami’s Coconut Grove, called Villa Serenita, once had a cameo in the 11th episode of the fifth and last season of the series. The episode showcased its both the exterior and the interiors. Built in 1929, the exterior of the Mediterranean Revival-style remains largely unchanged, albeit with some restorations. The interiors, however, have been refreshed and upgraded over the years to meet today’s living standards.

The historic home was designed in the 1920s by prominent 19th-century Miami architect Walter De Garmo, known for designing iconic Miami buildings, like the Women’s Club of Coconut Grove. Over the years it was renovated by Portuondo Perrotti architects, and, most recently, by Bunny Williams in 2022 with $12 million in renovations.

Vibrant colors animate the comfortably appointed living room.

In the 1920s, Miami was known for its Mediterranean Revival architecture, which features low-pitched, red-tiled roofs, wrought-iron balconies, design elements inspired by Spanish and Italian villas, and lush landscaping surrounding a structure. And this home, featuring beautiful tiling indoor and out, door ornamentation, and verdant gardens by award-winning SMI Landscape Architects, is a fine example of Miami’s rich architectural heritage.

Sitting on more than half an acre, the 6,268-square-foot spread features six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and one powder room. Many original design elements remain, including tiling in the dining and living rooms, restored crown moldings, soft archways, and ornate fireplaces. Many of the rooms have vaulted and beamed ceilings, oversized windows that flood spaces with natural light, and direct access to the outdoors.

Spread over two levels, the main floor features an oversized living room with colorful light fixtures and built-in shelving; modern kitchen; a dining room with a pastel blue vaulted ceiling and a curved, built-in fireplace; family room with patterned wallpaper and terrace access; an office; and a few bedrooms. Upstairs, the light-filled bedrooms feature terrace access, fireplaces, en suite bathrooms, and colorful furniture and walls.

The curve of the ceiling in the dining room is echoed in the elaborately carved bow-front corner fireplace.

Outside is a veritable oasis with incredible lush landscaping, including manicured hedges and towering pams to climbing ivy and bright florals. Situated at the end of a marina, the home is oriented towards Biscayne Bay with a large pool and spa, a water fountain, a koi pond, and ample lawn space.

Located within the private gated community called the Moorings, which has just 35 homes, Villa Serenita is listed by Renier Casanova of Compass Florida.
